Why do they do it?

I saw a story on the Caylee Anthony murder case. It really got me to wondering. Why do mothers kill their children? Susan Smith also came to mind killing her 2 little boys. I know there are varied reasons. I am not talking about mental illness.

Most of the stories we hear are that of very young children - beautiful little children. Casey Anthony could have dropped off her child with her very doting grandparents ANY TIME. If they would ask almost any random stranger to take the children, most all would do it. If they said that they couldn't take the demands of the child, most all of us would have offered to take them rather than them getting hurt.

These women had time to think about what they did. Most of them seem to. So, why then??
