Probably because the 'esteemed' moderators keep 'moving' (aka 'poofing') the new ones...

Why would that make old threads
get called up?

I don't know why this happens either but maybe old threads should just be completely removed as in permanently after 1 month, 2 months? Certainly no reason to keep a thread that is a year or two old. Is there?

As mentioned previously, the addition of "suggestions" for the search box and new topic subject line, plus the fact that they opened up access to ancient threads (I've seen some resurrected from 2010) seems to be the culprit.
I think some of the older threads (such as those in Recipes, for example) serve a purpose but as I said before it seems to me the older threads could, at least, be closed for comment. In programming, that kind of thing is normally an easy process.
(Since this thread isn't in the Suggestion Box, it might help to add @Community_Team, @Eva-QVC, @Keyai and @Brittany-QVC to the discussion.)

An easy process for intelligent people, that would exclude those who work for or moderate the forums, jmo.

Perhaps they should start by removing the "search" feature from the subject line and restricting "search" to the official search box.
That should at least take away the accidental resurrection of old threads by newer users.

@GingerPeach, Just my opinion, but I think the "suggestions" are helpful so we avoid starting multiple threads on the same topic within a few hours of each other, or when we want to find threads on certain subjects (just 2 examples), so I'd hate to see that removed. (We can disable it for our own use when we're logged in -- using "turn off suggestions"-- but that's a very limited option.) Locking old threads, with a simple programming loop, would be easy.

Thread titles show up in the search box as well, so if someone is searching for a previous title, they could easily train themselves to use that feature. If I were to guess at creating a new habit, I'd say that using the search box would be more used than "turn off suggestions." Anyway, my preference would be to use ye olde "official" search box.
Any trolling behavior could be addressed later since (with that change) it should be more clear how it's happening and/or who is doing it.
Then again, I've never been a professional in this field so I don't have background in what those in the field know about how folks use the systems.

The problem would be solved if they'd DELETE all threads after a certain amount of time.
