Re: Why are posts being removed that do not have anything offensive in them?

Biancardi, you just explained it perfectly!

It has been suggested to the moderators that at least a couple of "gaming the system" types of posters are now working in earnest on these forums. Themmods have already worked out the Hearts thing and have taken care of that. Now they need to come up with permanent banning strategies for calculated, deliberate and continued forum disruption.

I'm glad you're still here, and hope you enjoy your vacation.

Re: Why are posts being removed that do not have anything offensive in them?

surfk, it's become clearer over this weekend that these forums are being targeted by a group of vengeful commandos who seek to bring an atmosphere of fear and paranoia to these forums. They want the moderators on edge more than they want it for other posters. It's the only weapon left.

It's disheartening to have innocent posts pre-emptively removed - of course it would be for anyone. But although it's easiest and quickest to be angry with/blame the moderators, spare a minute for the true perpetrators. As long as they continue their vicious game, there is the potential for it to happen again.

I hope people start to understand that for the past 24-48 hours, the villains are not the moderators as much as a few disgruntled posters who would rather shut down the boards for all if they can't have precisely what they want.

Used to get info and links to some really interesting topics. And fun and hilarity. Not so much anymore. Must be more boring for the moderators. Maybe I'm projecting......

Re: Why are posts being removed that do not have anything offensive in them?

I think the moderators remove anything that is reported. Back in the other forums wasn't it that if people used the inappropriate button all the time they could be banned. It seems to me that a lot of reasons given for removing posts are copied from the reason being reported like "jabbing other posters". And then I've seen posts like " I'm glad the moderators have our backs" and " I feel protected from the bad stuff" from posters who rarely say anything in community chat?

I don't think so, I've reported stuff that never got removed.  LOL I reported a game thread in here to be moved and it got posted as a post.   A faux paus I'm sure.

I have reported posts on the new forum that did not get removed. I'm okay with that. It is their call and some posts are borderline.

I agree completely as well.

My non-religious, non-political general question about social etiquette and terminology was almost immediately deleted without explanation today.

When I then posted a second thread asking why such a thing was deleted...and without explanation, THAT POST TOO was immediately deleted without explanation. lol

FYI surfk - ALL comments - both pro AND con are closed for commenting on that subject. The moderators allowed comments for about a day or so and that was it.

There were negative opinions on that thread - just not personal or religious attacks.

Re: Why are posts being removed that do not have anything offensive in them?

The moderators are doing just what posters have wanted them to do for a long time: they are paying attention. They are explaining, they are letting posters know that a thread is heading into an area that is against the standards.

As for a thread being reposted after it's been deleted, haven't posters warned against that before? Reposting a thread was supposed to be against the old standards, it just wasn't usually enforced. Now it is.

I would hate to have the job as a MOD. They get beat up every day. One good thing no black eyes or bruises. They are trying to do their job the best they can. It's there judgement what is good and what is bad,
