Now with the re-call, egg prices will increase.

I noticed the price change weeks before Easter. At the grocery store, they were $3.69/18 eggs, I asked the cashier if that was a mistake because I couldn't believe price. At Walmart they are $1.70 for 18 eggs. The Walmart price has been consistent. At other grocery store chains, the price has gone up a lot.

after this latest egg recall that turns out the eggs i have are in, great value from walmart. i am thinking of going back to buying egglands best which is what i had been buying for a long time. decided to go for the walmart eggs due to price. but now i feel it is too dangerous to buy other eggs that are not in the category of egglands best!

@goldensrbest Yes and quantity and quality seem to be going down, too. Packages are smaller and the taste of some items is sorely lacking now.

Guess the increase is due to supply and demand.
Don't mind paying higher prices for eggs if it's because the chickens are fed better and treated in a humane way. Same goes for meats. It does make it harder though when the prices of everything keep escalating.

That is 24 cents an egg. That sounds like a bargain. A single apple can cost $2.50. One lemon $1.00. Russet potato over $1.00. I could go on but it just seems like there is a lot of angst about a very cheap food item.
And no, I don't work in the egg industry.

I used to buy the 5 or 7 dozen boxes because we eat so many eggs, I hope things settle down soon.

Check out the egg recall post and it lists the plant# and code # on eggs to look for if they're recalled. I checked mine from Walmart and they do not have the plant#, etc that are listed on the recalls. I also don't think the store would put out the eggs that are recalled.

It's funny you posted this @KKJ. Not joking funny, but funny to me because I mentioned this very thing to the checker when I bought groceries the other day--and I'm not really one to mention those things to strangers.
I do agree that eggs are still a great value for the nutritional payoff, but when I saw eggs had increased in price about 2 and a half times from when I last bought them (probably two months ago) I was really surprised. We decided that chickens must be on strike.

With 200 million eggs being recalled, I bet the price is going to go up.

Eggs are about the most perfect food--especially when combined with another protein. Carbs are the bad thing when eaten with fats or proteins. I used to eat them rarely, but now I go through 200-300 eggs a year.
