@Mom2Dogs wrote:@proudlyfromNJ Mask wearing is a mandate in my state - and I cannot go into any store without one...the store can be fined and that is not what I would want to happen to any retail business.
Move to Florida. No mandates allowed here. That is the state mandate. Lol

If the powers that be can let people into the country with out being tested - I can live my life with out someone telling me to wear a #&@* mask.
Effective January 26, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will require all air passengers two years of age and over entering the United States (including U.S. citizens and Legal Permanent Residents) to present a negative COVID-19 test, taken within three (3) calendar days of departure, or proof of recovery from the virus within the last 90 days. Airlines must confirm the negative test result or proof of recent recovery for all passengers prior to boarding. Airlines must deny boarding of passengers who do not provide documentation of a negative test or recovery.
See the CDC Proof of Negative Test Result page to view the order, complete the attestation, and to see FAQ’s.

That isn’t going to help. Tests can be negative before the flight but positive the day after they land here. And they know it.

@Tessa Mendoza wrote:@suzyQ3- Agree. And the new strains, acccording to British scientists are, in addition to being more transmissable, more lethal. Dr. Fauci has said he agrees. (Although I know many take what he says with a grain of salt). Guess we'll find out.
Yes, I'm pretty sure that I read thatone strain may be more lethal. I think it was the South African one, but don't quote me on that. But certainly, I have not heard anything about their being less so. @Tessa Mendoza
@suzyQ3 , @Lils Mom, there are a number of reports out there indicating that the 3 variants from the UK, Brazil and South Africa are much more easily transmittable but there is no evidence they cause a more severe infection/are more deadly.
I have also heard this reported on various news programs over and over again. But then the doctor always goes on to say that by nature if more people get it, more will need to be hospitalized and more people will die. I don't get how they keep making that leap.
I have actually heard health experts say on the news recently that the U.K. variant is indeed more deadly. The numbers quickly proved that. They did say, at first, that they did not think it was more deadly but they soon saw they were incorrect in that assumption.
The South African variant is known to be more deadly and there is also not as much protection from it in vaccines because it has multiple mutations and they are in the part of the virus that the vaccines are meant to work on.
And there are more new variants with multiple mutations, too, but I do not know much about them. The newer variants seem to be worse and that makes sense. We are unlikely to ever catch up, much less get ahead of the mutations.

@Mom2Dogs wrote:...it's not my thought - we are told daily to now double mask - and once you are vaccinated, you must continue to mask up, distance, etc.... Some business owners still cannot open their stores....
I've yet to see anyone in power give a hint of hope....without hope you have nothing.
@Mom2Dogs, the news that I read and hear includes the information that cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are decidedly fewer.
But they have duty to tell us that they are still much higher than they should be. And they have a duty to warn us about the variants.
So what I hear seems to be the facts. And I appreciate that.
They recently changed how they count so the numbers have been skewed yet again. We aren’t going to get true numbers about this. It has been tampered with in too many ways too many times in too many places. No one knows the “real” numbers.
I really don’t think the numbers should change our behavior until they hit the ground and stay there. It isn’t likely to happen for a long time but, hopefully, it will happen before a new, deadlier strain (strain is not the same as a mutation/variant) comes along for the next pandemic.
I’m in Florida and I have never heard anyone in real life say to double mask though, depending on the mask and the situation, it can be a good idea. Safer is better than not safe at all.
Most of my co-workers don’t wear masks at all and the rest are inconsistent which isn’t much better. I can only think of one other person at work who consistently wears a mask around other people there. I am very happy I can close my office door and avoid them all.
All I said was that the numbers have decreased. I believe them when they say that. Of course, they are still too high, and of course, we could see spiked for various reasons, @willdob3

@Mom2Dogs wrote:@Tinkrbl44 Oh yes..those coming in will have negative covid test paperwork in their back pocket - that is just ridiculous.
Nothing ridiculous about it. If you were going to go to another country, wouldn't YOU check what the requirements are with all the covid restrictions? I would think they wouldn't even let them on the plane if they couldn't produce all the right documentation, including passports, etc etc. That should always be expected.

@Tinkrbl44 ...I am referring to people WALKING acrosss the border.

@Mom2Dogs Have they started? I haven't paid attention.

I'm much more concerned about our own citiizens who ignore the virus than I am about any from the Southern border.
Besides, such references are political and controversial.

@suzyQ3 ..If you want to keep you head in the sand so be it...I like to know what is going on in the country....if you lived near the border you would be concerned..
I am done with this topic - the thread will be deleted.
