My in-laws called a few weeks ago to ask what they could get our son for Christmas. Aldi has two different Hot Wheels track sets that our son wanted. He liked both but would be happy with either one. They were 14.99 each and sold for 19.99 at Walmart or Toys R Us. My in-laws do shop at Aldi so I thought perfect this is what they can get him and it would be easy for them. My husband called them this evening to find out what time we needed to be at their house for Christmas Eve. While making small talk with his father he asked him if they had any trouble finding the Hot Wheels set for our son. He tells my husband yes they saw it but his wife (my husband's step-monster) decided that's not what she wanted our son to have. They were at Toys R Us in a larger city 45 minutes away buying a Christmas gift for her grandson (TRU was the only place that had what he wanted) and she picked out a Hot Wheels set for our son there. My husband looked it up online and it had horrible reviews, most people said it was junk, and it only was rated 2 stars out of 5. The two other sets that he did want both had very good reviews and were highly rated. Every Time I have taken our son grocery shopping with me he looks at the Hot Wheels sets and even comes home talking about them and draws pictures of them. I just kept telling him to be patient someone might get him one for Christmas, thinking my in-laws were getting it. Now my Mom is off to Aldi in the morning to see if they still have the sets and she and my Dad are going to get them for him so he won't be disappointed. I would have never given him hope that he might get one of them if I have known my in-laws wouldn't follow threw. Why even bother to ask us what he wants if they have no intention of getting it for him? I don't mean to sound ungrateful but now I have to deal with not letting him open what they bought for him so I can take it back to Toys R Us not to mention the 45 minute drive I'll have to make into the city and just the hassle of returning it. It's listed online for 34.99. They could have bought him both of the ones he wanted and still not spent as much.
