Re: Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

I asked a contractor why he didn't ring my doorbell. He told me he got yelled at by mothers for waking the baby.

I think with all the doorbells with cameras you know who is coming up to the door and who is out there now so may that is why it is just assumed you know the situation without a doorbell ringing.

I should amend what I wrote. The host said traditional door bells have gone out of style now younger buyers want a Ring style bell with a camera and microphone. Technological progress? I think not. More needless gadgets.

@Reever One of the best "gadgets" of the day if you ask me.  I can see who is out there, talk to them through the doorbell if I don't know them, and have a video proving that UPS did NOT attempt to deliver a package and lied and said we wouldn't come to the door.

@Icegoddess  said:  My one complaint about the Ring is that there can only be one primary user. That would be my husband. So, if I get kicked off because my phone updated or something, I can't just log back in. I have to get some number that Ring texts to him and enter that too. On top of that, hubby got cute and made the password something that requires a lot of switching back and forth between caps and lowercase and it's a real pain on the phone.

I wouldn't be too quick to blame your husband for the password changes.  I've lost count of how many I've had to change recently because more and more sites are requiring longer passwords, 8-12 characters, and the password must contain at least one upper case letter, one number and one of several signs such as # $ % !, etc.

There are several sites I use that will only allow sign in when a code they provide (text, email or phone call) is entered as part of the login process.

I even have one account (thankfully only one at this time) that requires me to change my password every 60 days.

Same here...everyone knocks even though the doorbell is easy to see. Wish the UPS guy would knock or ring the bell....he does neither.

@Marp He's never changed his password.  Most only require doing each (UC, Number, Symbol) once though.  He did it multiple times.  And he doesn't have to get a text from them if he gets logged out. Only I do.

I get it.  No matter how many times I've checked that box for one of my banks to remember my device, it never does and I have to get a text or e-mail from them every time I need to log in.  That doesn't bother me as much though as when all I want to do is pay a bill online and I have to jump through several hoops to do so.

@Reever   Certainly entitled to your opinion regarding techno progress and also entitled to not purchase and use any of it.

You do you.

@Cakers3 I love mine. As you approach the door a voice would say "I'm recording you". Had that silenced that way if someone doesn't realize that there is a camera there, they will get caught in the act.

@Sage04   We also like our cameras.  We can communicate through them and also set off an alarm.

Those with disabilities appreciate the heads up so to speak when somebody is approaching so they do not have to get up to see who is at the door.  Safety issue, too.

Deliveries can be tracked today with ease-so you know when something is out to be delivered.  For the most part eliminates theft-esp. with the holidays around the corner.

Re: Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

most people DO ring the bell at our home. very few knock.

UPS, USPS, FEDEX, and other services leave the packages at the front door, but never ring or knock unless a signature happens to be required, which is rare.

Re: Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

Delivery people are buried. Can you imagine if they spent 1-2 extra seconds per stop to ring a bell?  That may seem like nothing but it quickly adds up to someone already working 10 hour days.

You can sign up at USPS, UPS, and FedEx so they notifiy you ahead of time the aprox time something will be delivered.

Re: Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

I wish the delivery people would either ring or knock when they drop off packages!  99% of them don't do either one of them.  The bell would be quicker.  I mean they are at your door any way and all they have to do is just use one finger to hit the bell, dump the box and that's it.  They don't have to wait around for an answer or you to open the door!  I wouldn't think it would take any more time.  I keep checking all the time if I'm expecting a package and then a lot of times in the morning I will get up and there will be a package on my doorstep.  Someone could come along in the night and take it, but.....

Re: Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

My delivery people never ring our doorbell. I wish they would, but maybe they were told not to for disturbance reasons! Not sure why someone would knock instead of using your doorbell, unless again for disturbance?
