Re: Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

only way I know something is being dropped off is if I'm sitting on the couch and see a shadow block out the light from the sidelights or glass insert on the door.

computer will say "your package has been delivered ".  It has ? So, I'd better run to the porch and bring it in.

too much strain to push  a button I guess. They run like their butts on fire.

Re: Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

Some of the delivery people ring the doorbell, and some don't.  The mail person always rings the doorbell.  She delivered a pkg the other day that we had to sign for because the address was one number off from ours, but she knew which address was ours.  We have a Ring doorbell and the ones that don't ring the doorbell seem to know exactly how to deliver a package without setting it off.  So, I'll be home all day and check my E-mail and it says my package has arrived and I say "no it hasn't".  I go and look out the door and there it is.

My one complaint about the Ring is that there can only be one primary user.  That would be my husband.  So, if I get kicked off because my phone updated or something, I can't just log back in.  I have to get some number that Ring texts to him and enter that too.  On top of that, hubby got cute and made the password something that requires a lot of switching back and forth between caps and lowercase and it's a real pain on the phone.  I tried to do it at lunch with him sitting right across from me showing me the password on his phone and I still couldn't get it right.  I have the pw on my computer, but if he's out of town or at his favorite watering hole I'm out of luck until he either returns home or calls me.

I was watching HGTV and one of the program hosts (cannot recall which one) said doorbells have gotten out of style and are considered tacky by younger homeowners.  The younger generation certainly has strange tastes. I often shake my head watching these home remodeling shows. I assume most delivery people are under 40 so perhaps that is why they have an aversion to ringing the bell. In my area you are fortunate to even get a knock. They often dump packages and quickly run back to their vehicle presumably to text or listen to music on the device that they are tethered to.

@Reever Why would you presume they are running back to their vehicle to text or listen to music?  I have some who knock, some who don't.  The only thing I would presume is that they have many more deliveries to make in a limited amount of time.

@Eliana  isn't that something? They are on a schedule and don't have time for nonsense. They also have to set up their GPS for the next delivery. I know this, because I know.

I get an immediate text from UPS & FedX a package has been delivered,  With Amazon, text with picture and where it was delivered.  Young people prefer communication that way.  Maybe they have sleeping babies, dogs that bark (like mine).  I prefer drop go and text.

@mspatmac  or if your bedroom is in the front or your office, you see them. When I had a dog, she told me when someone was approaching. Most of the time when something is out for delivery, you have an idea when it will be delivered. Text also from UPS and picture from Amazon.

I never thought of doorbells going out of style-like bell bottoms or something. LOL

I think with all the doorbells with cameras you know who is coming up to the door and who is out there now so may that is why it is just assumed you know the situation without a doorbell ringing.

I should amend what I wrote. The host said traditional door bells have gone out of style now younger buyers want a Ring style bell with a camera and microphone. Technological progress? I think not. More needless gadgets.

@Reever  that is so true. Most people who pay for security through a Company get the camera and microphone on the inside panel. I like that because if you check the camera and don't like who is on the other side, you ignore it and they will never know.

@Reever   Certainly entitled to your opinion regarding techno progress and also entitled to not purchase and use any of it.

You do you.

@Cakers3 I love mine. As you approach the door a voice would say "I'm recording you". Had that silenced that way if someone doesn't realize that there is a camera there, they will get caught in the act.

I should get a quieter doorbell as mine is so loud it makes me jump every time.  I prefer a knock.

@tansy  just moved to a new subdivision and certainly wasn't used to the sound of this doorbell. Everytime it rang I would ignore it because I didn't know what it was. It was a very soft sound. Now it sounds like a regular doorbell.

Re: Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

Just spoke to someone who retired from UPS last year and asked him that question.

He said some people may have a baby, or someone who is sick or elderly. He also said some people would get so upset if they ran the doorbell because they are disturbing someone.

Some would post a note asking not to ring the doorbell, and if there is a dog the dog would notify them that someone is at the door.

Makes sense
