Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

[ Edited ]

My doorbell contains a light , but, other than delivery people, everyone knocks. Is it just my neighborhood or is it universal?

Lite?

They seem to do both here.  Schwan man rang my doorbell a few days ago and I guess because it took me 10 seconds to answer the door he then knocked.  I've had that happen before.  It's annoying.

It is funny why people do that, maybe because so many doorbell's don't work?

Yesterday we had some contractors doing some work inside our home. When they arrived they stood outside the door and just hollered, "Hello, Hello". They didn't knock or even try the doorbell.

I have a sign on my door asking deliveries to ring the doorbell, which is 3" away.  About one out of ten actually do it.  I have no windows on the front and never know when a package is sitting outside the door.  Even my dogs no longer bark at deliverymen.

People seem to always knock on my front door even though there's an obvious doorbell button out there....can't miss it.

My front door doesn't have a storm door on it and it's just a wood door painted red. I think people just like the sound of knocking on wood...LOL! Woman LOL

You're lucky that the delivery people bother to ring. They never do at my house. Drop and go.

Where we live, nobody comes to our

door, but delivery or maintenance people. We live in a secluded area outside the city limits. We consider this to be rural, even though we are forced to pay City taxes, yet cannot vote for anything City!

About 99% of what I order is from Amazon, and this I told them to put on all package deliveries. It is in bold, all CAPS, on every delivery label.

"DELIVER ALL PACKAGES TO REAR OF HOUSE SOUTH PATIO ROOM PORCH"

There is no doorbell, or a need for one. All works out well, most of the time.

You asked a question, this is my reply.

I was watching HGTV and one of the program hosts (cannot recall which one) said doorbells have gotten out of style and are considered tacky by younger homeowners.  The younger generation certainly has strange tastes. I often shake my head watching these home remodeling shows. I assume most delivery people are under 40 so perhaps that is why they have an aversion to ringing the bell. In my area you are fortunate to even get a knock. They often dump packages and quickly run back to their vehicle presumably to text or listen to music on the device that they are tethered to.

I never thought of doorbells going out of style-like bell bottoms or something. LOL

I think with all the doorbells with cameras you know who is coming up to the door and who is out there now so may that is why it is just assumed you know the situation without a doorbell ringing.

Re: Why Don't They Ring The Doorbell?

None of our delivery people ever ring the doorbell or knock; they just leave the mail or packages stacked at the door.
