Why Do They Rush The Holiday Seasons

I was food shopping on Thursday, August 19 and they had the Halloween candy out already! Halloween is over 2 months away. I'll bet by the beginning of September we'll start seeing Christmas decorations!

Re: Why Do They Rush The Holiday Seasons

simple---it's called RETAIL!!!!! I worked retail for 12 years at a Party store. The 5th of July----we always got tons of frieght that had  the upcoming holidays in it clear until and including Mardi Gras. Most of it had tiny shelf space devoted  to it on the floor and Helloween (I hate Helloween) was the huge draw and was everywhere until Nov 1st. Candy didn't come in until Aug/ September. So glad I quit finally---hard to get in the holiday mode when it hits you in the face for months and months.

Retail stocks what sells.

Where I live, the kids are already in school, summer activities are essentially over.

No one is buying bathing suits or picnic items.

I was in WM yesterday, I was shopping behind a couple picking up fall decor.

It's been so hot, I'm ready for the transition.

And speaking of WM, their lay-a-way is open for the season now.

Re: Why Do They Rush The Holiday Seasons

I was talking to a clerk at Walmart around mid July and she mentioned all the Halloween candy was in the back room waiting until the school supplies sell through.

So in reality, that candy was made in May and June.

Re: Why Do They Rush The Holiday Seasons

$$$$$$$$$$$$    I think most just go wherever retailers telll them to go.  Tell them to buy Christmas stockings and decorations in July and they will.   Tell them to buy boots in August and they will.   Tell them to get their Halloween candy in August and they will break their necks rushing to get to it "beore it's all gone".  I am amused by out of season shopping but I think it's necessary for a healthy economy.  No one is buying summer stuff now as summer is winding down;  people are school shopping now and school says  "Fall".  It makes sense that retailers would push those who want to be pushed into buying other Fall items.  I'm sure it is all things Halloween out there or will be within the next few days.

Re: Why Do They Rush The Holiday Seasons

I think retail has to offer a variety of products for us AND a variety of ways for us to buy.

I know I almost never buy holiday food products early unless there's a super sale on something packaged.  That I'd buy because by now everything packaged like that candy has already been manufactured and warehoused and there's no reason to wait.

As for decor -  if I see something I really want, I buy it when I see it.  It may well not be around later.  Once a holiday is close, I just wait until after and look for deep, deep sales.  They've already lost me by the time the holiday is looming.

The retail world has always done this and always will.

It's all about the 'Bengamins'.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Re: Why Do They Rush The Holiday Seasons

Retailers who are late to the party have to have end of season/holiday sales to unload inventory.  They want to get your money before you spend it somewhere else.  It doesn't trigger me to spend unless it's something I think may well out.

Re: Why Do They Rush The Holiday Seasons

If the consumer did not buy the holiday items so early they would get the message. If they were not making money they would make changes. But it won't happen because of the idiots screaming for Christmas in July.
