you know, @golding76 , i felt the same way.  i never really cared for the line, and wasn't particularly interested in watching her for any reason at all ... so it kind of surprised me that i had heartfelt thoughts about her engagement.

I think she's just excited. It's not uncommon at all to see someone holding out her hand with a ring on it, as if to say "look, we're engaged!"

While I of course only know Jill as a representative for G.i.L.I. , the picture of her beaming and surrounded by family and her fiancee makes me smile.  It is just so uplifting to see someone so happy and in love and it shows in the pictures.  I wish the couple well and hope they are blessed with a lasting marriage.

Since Jill has posted this all over social media and it was announced on air on the Today show, I guess they all figure it's important to the general public.
