Hi Lotus, for me Naproxen is almost like a wonder drug, it works so well. Because of that I take it only when I really have aches/pains, once a month or so. I want to keep it working :-) I take a generic version, 220mg. I hope you find something that works for you, good luck!

Thanks mewsmomtoo.....so you only take it when needed? What dose do you take?

Thanks betteb....I read that online...I'm just wondering if it's a "take as needed" or does it have to build up in your system, and needs to be taken daily.

the over the counter aleve is 220mg for one tablet....which is the recommended dosage. it does say you can take two at once if the pain is bad. i occasionally do that but not too often because it does bother my stomach. if i do that i take a tums AND a prilosec.

It's a build to a blood level and maintain it drug. I do know people who say they get relief from an occasional dose though.

For years I've taken the generic version of a NSAID, Lodine. I've tried the new drugs as they've come on the market but nothing works as well as my Lodine.

My Dr switched me to Lodine after years of prescription ibuprofen. For me it works about the same as the ibuprofen, but my blood pressure stays lower on the Lodine.

I took this medication many times over the decades.I never had any side effects but once I developed PE and was put on blood thinners I had to quit taking all anti inflammatories. Pretty sure you are aware that there are several OTC meds that contain naproxen. Am no longer taking blood thinners but still avoid all anti inflammatories because of my colon bleeding issues that required way too many colonoscopies and over 100 blood transfusions.

Aleve (Naproxen) is the best pain reliever for me, if you're talking about OTC medicine. I take it only as needed. If the pain is bad, like a bad headache, I'll take two at once. Usually the pain subsides within 20 minutes.
