What strength do you take and did it work?
Did it bother your stomach?
TIA

Lotus, I think all nsaids have the potential for stomach irritation. Be sure to take it with food and or milk.
I have taken it before but I have good luck with Ibuprofin so it has been a long time since I have used it.

Hi Lotus,
Can be purchased OTC as "Aleve" in smaller than rx doses from docs.
This med has been around for more than 30 years and, yes, it does have gastric side effects for some, so is best ALWAYS taken directly after a full meal.
I was prescribed this med in the early 90s. I took it for several weeks. It worked great. Had another flare of that horrible neck pain, so asked for a refill. Got the refill, but thereafter received no positive results from taking it. Same thing happened with Motrin. Had one good round with it, then the second round didn't work. My darn physiology. Geesh!
Anyway, I want to end by saying that there are far more sophisticated NSAIDs that have been developed since the late 70s/early 80s without GI issues. I would ask my doc to pursue one of those, if it were me.

My son just had shoulder surgery and in addition to pain meds the surgeon gave him Naproxen 500mg.
I take 4 Advil Gel caps at the same time for back and neck, hip, foot, and ankle pain....I'm wanting to try one of his Naproxens. It can't be any worse on my stomach (of steel) than 4 Advils.
Thanks ladies.

I have trouble finding a pain reliever that actually does some good .... Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Tylenol do nothing for me ..... For me, nothing works better than plain old aspirin!

Lotus,
Pharmacologically speaking, taking one of your son's Naproxens will not allow you to achieve a therapeutic blood level of the drug, so if I were you, I'd head for your favorite drug store and try the OTC version - ALEVE. Though the mg per cap/tab will be less, you should be able to achieve a therapeutic blood level.

sfnative.....does Naproxen have to build up in your system?
I actually have Aleve in the house....how many do you take at one time?

Aspirin is a very good anti-inflammatory, I wish I could take it. I have stomach issues and I can't, not even buffered or coated aspirin. My Dr wants me to take a baby aspirin everyday and I can't even do that.
Your lucky, cause if I could stomach it I would take it.
