If you think you really know who is behind that screen name, you might want to see the movie Catfish. If you missed that one, however, there's a chilling documentary Talhotblonde which has been made into a Lifetime network movie, directed by Courteney Cox. It's a true story about the "person behind the nickname."
Reviews:
"This shocking true story reveals how easily the line between virtual reality and the truth can be blurred when hiding behind a keyboard online."
"This is the true story of a love triangle that takes place entirely online. Lies lead to murder in real life, as a teenage vixen (screen name 'talhotblond') lures men into her web. Revealing a shocking true crime story that shows the Internet's power to unleash our most dangerous fantasies."
From the documentary:
"With sharp psychological insight and an ingenious approach to narration, director Barbara Schroeder weaves interviews together with transcripts of the three lovers’ online conversations to tell the story of a love triangle in which the lovers never meet face to face, but one person ends up dead, another goes to prison, and the families of all three are changed forever."
