Re: 👀 Who didn't see this coming? 👀

I have been asked to give money to several Godundme accounts....have always been wary of them....I would rather just give the money directly to the person in need. If this couple defrauded the homeless person, there is much more to this entire situation than we know at this point.

Greed makes people do ugly things. My sister stole over $400,000 from my mother’s account/estate and never would provide accounting even when legally pressed. She just filed bankruptcy and went on her merry way.

The whole story is suspicious from the beginning.  This couple is at a gas station because they ran out of gas and ran out of money.  They don't appear to be destitute so why not be prepared if you are out driving and suddenly find yourselves with no money and no gas.  And no credit card between the two of them?   Then, they just happen to see this homeless guy at the gas station, they tell him they are stuck, and the homeless guy says "here - take my last 20 dollar bill" ?  And the couple accepts the cash ?   And then the go fun me page ???  Sounds like a scam from the very start.

@PhilaLady1  This actually makes the most sense.

I actually just now read that GoFundMe is taking over investigation of this case and regardless of what happened to the money - stated the Veteran would receive what was donated to him.

They have a guarantee that in rare cases that a user finds campaigns are misused, donors and beneficiaries are protected - according to GoFundMe Spokesman.

Although - with his history - I hope the money is put in a trust by a HONEST trustee.  Give him time to get his life back on track - he fell down a few steps but lets give him time to get back on those steps of life.

The signs sure point to this couple absconding with the guy's money.  It wasn't their right to be judge and jury over the guy's money.  As someone else mentioned, they should've turned it over to a bank to handle for the guy.  If he wanted to squander it all on drugs, then I guess that was his right.  It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Don't get me started about GoFundMe!  My stepdaughter and her husband have so far had three GoFundMe accounts begging for money to pay their bills.  They're almost 40 and they only just recently both got jobs for the first time.  They don't have disabilities or something that would preclude them from working and having careers.  I have no pity for them because my husband supported (and enabled) her for way too long.

That's not how it happened.  The idiot woman was out driving, ran out of gas got stranded in a bad part of town. The 'good samaritan' man told her to stay in her car (can't remember why she didn't have a phone, phone was dead, something like that who, amongst us don't have a cell phone nowdays) anyway he put gas in her car and got her on her way.

She remembered him and went back to that area with others to thank him and then started this go fund me 'stuff' then, I guess it all went sideways and now we got this mess.

That's how I understand it from GMA news

I've been following this story from the beginning.  What Bobbit did was a very kind act. I think the "Go Fund Me" campaign started out with good intentions and went horribly wrong when greed took over.

ETA:  I think the couple were idiots to think they could get away with fraud!  They had photos all over social media of lavish vacations and new expensive luxury items.  I don't understand how they thought they wouldn't have gotten caught!
