Re: Who Remembers the Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate With Hersheys?

[ Edited ]

Around here, when you make it from scratch with Hershey's powdered cocoa, it is called cocoa instead of hot chocolate. We call the instant mixes hot chocolate. Every part of the country has its own terminology for things.

Re: Who Remembers the Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate With Hersheys?

I just now finished my daily morning sugar free cup of hot chocolate, store brand.  Lived off of the Hershey's Cocoa recipe growing up and then raising my own family.  We had it all the time in the winter morning or night.  Cook on the stove top and constantly heating up my cup in the microwave since I liked it hot hot!!

I do not make the one cup just for myself very often since it does not taste the same as a full recipe portion.  Lots of sugar.

Re: Who Remembers the Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate With Hersheys?

I like the idea of floating mini marshmallows on top.  Hey, how about adding a candy cane for that slightly peppermint flavor?  I have round, green and also red striped starlight mints, but I don't recommend using them (to others) because of the possibility of mistakenly swallowing a whole mint.  Try the candy cane instead.

Hey (again), how about adding a peppermint patty?  Either chopped or whole.

Enjoy your hot cup of hot chocolate-cocoa!   Heart

There is Eagle Brand Milk which is very sweet-has sugar in it and makes the best fudge. Also Carnation milk is just condensed milk and NO sugar.

@Annabellethecat66 - did it say sugar-free or unsweetened.  Sugar-free means they added that fake krap to it.

The recipe on the back of the container is as follows.

2 T sugar

2 T Hershey's Cocoa

dash of salt

1/4 t vanilla

1 c milk

Mix sugar, cocoa & salt in mug

Heat milk in microwave on high for 1 1/2 mins or until hot

Gradually add milk to cocoa mixture, stir well

Stir in vanilla

There is also this stovetop recipe listed on the side of the container.

1/2 c sugar

1/4 c Hershey's Cocoa

Dash Salt

1/3 c hot water

4 c milk

3/4 T vanilla

Mix sugar, cocoa & salt in saucepan, stir in water

Cook & stir over medium heat until mixture boils, boil & stir 2 mins.

Stir in milk & heat. Do Not Boil

Remove from heat, add vanilla

I like the Hot Chocolate that Williams Sonama sells made with Guittard chocolate. Yum!!! It's also good with their espresso powder.

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Who Remembers the Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate With Hersheys?

When I use Hershey's Cocoa for hot chocolate, I use nonfat milk. I pour the milk in a large mug and heat it in the microwave around 2 minutes. Then I add the cocoa powder, but not as much as the label recipe asks for and about a teaspoon of sugar to my taste. I sometimes have this hot chocolate when I'm watching my weight instead of eating cake or a piece of pie or something. But, I also drink it because I enjoy it occasionally while I'm watching TV or on my computer on a chilly night.

@Annabellethecat66

I use one half whole milk, one half condensed milk and I add the Hershey's Powdered Cocoa to taste.  My husband likes his more chocolatey than I do so I make mine first, then add more chocolate for his.  Top with marshmallows or whipped cream and it's delicious.
