Have Echo (Alexa), Dot and Tap. Use Tap outside when I work in yard, voice command when you push the microphone button to activate Alexa in Tap. The Echo you voice command at all times although you can also use the Alexa app. on computer, phone, tablet. The speaker for Dot is minimally basic like a clock radio and I use as backup in bedroom. Echo is used all day, pandora, audible, iheart radio, weather, wiki, her possibilities are endless and on and on--the speakers on Echo are so terrific, I gave my receiver and speakers to my son since Echo speakers are so dynamic, I now have more room and I would not be without Echo and Tap; classical music and opera is dynamic on Echo and Tap due to superior speaker. Amazon has to come up with a way that we can use cd's with Echo.......Echo is an asset in my life, not a toy--I am 75....

Hi! I bought 2-2paks when the Dot was the TSV. We kept one and each of our kids got one for xmas. It was everyone's favorite gift and I looked like a hero! Lol (I love it for music and even asked it to play the soundtrack from Hamilton! It played a nice assortment.) I wouldn't hesitate!!

I have the Amazon Echo since it first came out. I use it to ask questions, music, weather, news, to play games, timers, recipes, grocery lists. I did not get the extras to hook it up to turn the lights and all off and on (to me thats lazy unless you physically cant do it yourself). I will say it does mess up on some of the answers, but its gotten a lot better than when it first came out. Id say I love telling it to play music the most.

I don't and after watching the Today show last week when they were using her I wouldn't waste my money. SHe seemed to have about a 50% success rate. THe Today show reporters kept making excuses for why it wasn't working properly.

I have Cortana on Windows 10 and my Android phone. It took me forever to remember her name. LOL
It's great for asking questions, playing music, etc. Over time, it learns more about you and is more interactive. One thing about Cortana is you can set it to spontaneously tell you stuff. For example, I must have asked about the Steelers at some point because yesterday it spontaneously announced while I was making dinner the game time and her opinion on who would win said game.
I will probably get one as the prices come down. I do work from home a lot, but I don't discuss anything above proprietary on my conference calls, so I doubt it would be an issue.
But now I need to talk to our data privacy officer about this because this has interesting implications.

You must subscribe to Amazon Prime for it to even work.

I got the Dot for Christmas, had fun playing with it. Honestly now it's unplugged. I keep meaning to see if I can hook it up to my Bose Wave radio via Bluetooth but I never get around to it. Another in my long list of keep meaning to do...
I did connect the Dot to an old cheap Bluetooth speaker for my Amazon music and it made that old speaker sound much better. The sound from the Dot is not that great, I would imagine the Echo is much better.

And you never would be able to drop Prime?

That is NOT correct. You do need an Amazon account but it does not have to be Amazon Prime.
