Does anyone remember when you could go in the 5 and 10 and buy those little baby turtles and they put them in a carton for you to take home?

They had birds and fish also.

After those I had to run to the Barbie aisle to see if any new clothes came in.

hi, @Mersha   yes my sister and i had a number of those baby turtles. one of them died and we held a funeral for him. he was given a proper burial. we used a glass pickle jar for the casket.   the last two ran away when we cleaned out their washtub "home" out in the backyard. we looked high and low for them. i imagine they escaped to the swamp behind our neighborhood.   i guess they were banned from sales in 1975 die to salmonella. some children got sick.

That was so nice of you and your sisters to provide a casket and everything for the funeral. Proper burial and all :-)     What was his name?

@Silver Lining   Oh, how nice of you to say... thank you!   his name was Scooby not for the cartoon which came years later,  but because we got him in Florida and there were scuba divers at the local pier near the 5&10.   The others were named Penny and Mikey.

NOPE I don't remember the Monkees shoes, but I do remember my Beatles sneakers black and white with all their faces all over the entire sneaker! I was 6.  I also remember Paul's dead. My sister was screaming crying. I thought it was my next door neighbor Paul and I went hysterical 😩 crying. my mom had to explain that it was Ringo's friend Paul, not my neighbor 😝 Ringo was my favorite Beatle.

AL for Alpine....had a 4-party line, had to go on a waiting list to get a private line--took about a year.

LOVED Newberry's and Woolworths, especially the lunch counter and candy counter.
