I'm wondering why he wasn't targeted earlier, he had been inside for quite some time prior to his murder.

OK, I'm not new to the world but I don't remember him. I know I've heard the name but don't know what he did. Of course I know what a gangster is but tell me about him.

From what I read today, the prison was notorious for the deaths of many inmates, and the FBI was supposed to be investigating the dangerous situation there.Evidently no inmates survived there for very long.
The news stated it was a Mafia hit from the inside probably because he stole millions from them by claiming he "lost" the drugs that he ultimately stole for his own profit. How they didn't find him, a long time ago is amazing.
IMO no great loss - he was a brutal killer
