Where to go in Italy

Wasn't sure which catagory to choose for this post!

DH & I are going to Italy next year and we have about 7 days that we are trying to decide what to do with. We are starting in Venice and then to Florence. I thought I might just want to go from hill town to hill town. Maybe I don't need so many hill towns and DH thought a few days in Rome might be fun. For those of you who have travelled to Italy, what might you suggest. I'm waiting on my Rick Steves book to come. We do not want to drive and will use trains and buses. Thanks!
