I was in Santa Fe for a conference last week and I stayed at the Eldorado.  Walking distance to everything and dog-friendly.

My first vacation since 2006.  Had some life-changing gelato at Ecco.  If you like history and art, you'll be surrounded by it.

May I ask which cruise line you prefer? I would like to plan a cruise to Alaska, but have not traveled much and have not cruised. Thank you!

I just returned from Santa Fe 2 days ago! It still is very charming. Went to Meowwolf exhibit, visited galleries, shopped the plaza area and checked out the Opera House (which is closed this time of year). I stayed at La Fonda which is right on the plaza and convenient to everything on the plaza. While there, the temps were fine for a light jacket; It does get cool at night i flew into Albuquerque and took the shuttle to SF which delivers directly to LaFonda. If you rent a car, there are day trips you can take too.

Its been a number of years since i've been to Sedona, but is certainly a beautiful place! I think i was there in March.

Whereever you go, enjoy!

First, thank you so much for visiting Santa Fe.  New Mexico depends on the kindness of strangers and we appreciate our tourists.  You are correct: The town does have a certain charm.

I live in Albuquerque and was in Santa Fe last week for a conference.  I stayed at the Eldorado and walked everywhere.  Parking is a challenge.  But if you like to walk, it's the perfect place for it.

I brought a coat because we had a cold spell in New Mexico but I didn't even need it.  High desert, high altitude.  It can be chilly in the morning and at night but when the New Mexico sun is shining, it's comfortable.

I think it's a fine choice if you're traveling alone.  The city attracts tourists from all over the world and you'll meet a lot of different people.  No shortage of restaurants.  The city is generous with walking maps and it's easy to navigate the area around the plaza.

All you need is a comfortable pair of shoes.

Re: Where Should I Go On Vacation?

If I were you i would take a cruise. My friends love them. I didn't travel since 2008 when I went to Australia and back. Then last year I was heading back to Australia in Oct and then in April I went to the UK. I've been to New Mexico 3 times which is lovely. It's really not too much fun traveling and sightseeing by yourself. I would look around for tours that cater to singles. I think you would enjoy it more. Once you get the traveling bug in you you'll want to go all over the place.

Massachutes is one of my favorite states to visit. Salem being my first choice. I also love Boston, All of Cape Cod.

So much history, great weather in September.

On my next trip I hope to travel to the rest of New England. Maine, New Hampshire!

@skincaremaven.  First, I do.not like Princess or Carnival.  The rest are a toss up.  You must consider the itinerary when going to Alaska.  You definitely want to go to Glacier Bay but the Natl Park Service limits ships going there so many aren't able to go.  I'd definitely want Ketchikan, Skagway, Juneau and Anchorage.  If at all possible try to include a side trip to Denali National Park.  That's  where you see all of the animals.

Check out "Vacations to Go.com" for ships, itineraries, fares,  etc.  You must have a cabin with a balcony.   The interior cabins are awful.  Try to get a friend or relative to go with you as it's much cheaper.

Re: Where Should I Go On Vacation?

@Anonymous032819  I agree with ZoetheCat that San Francisco would be a great vacation spot. I went with a teacher friend, but I would have been comfortable traveling alone. We took day trips and caught the bus from our hotel. Day trip to Napa Valley, Monterey and Carmel, and a night sighting seeing tour of San Francisco. We stayed near the Wharf. Took the ferry across and visited the famous prison Alcatraz. One tour consisted of famous sites, visited the botanical gardens, and walked on The Golden Gate bridge. Everything we did was in a group setting. If I was traveling alone, it would be easy to strike up a conversation with others and have someone to eat with at lunch or dinner.

Re: Where Should I Go On Vacation?

@texassunflower   Sounds like you had a great time! I've done all the things that you've mentioned at various times of the year and while weather is always a hit or miss I've found that October to usually be one of the nicest times in NYC.

It can get very hot & humid even in June there.  My birthday is the end of May.  I went to NYC with some girlfriends for a special milestone birthday a numbeer of years ago and it just happened to be a very hot (in the mid 90s) & humid day.

It was a bit disappointing but we were driven around with AC and went to a nice brunch indoors.
