Fake flowers in the center,replaced with real during holidays.
left: a couple of coffee table books (usually about the Kennedys)
right: some kind of candy in a candy dish.

No little tables like that at my house. Mom took care of kids, on top of her own three. So kids were abundent. Then we had friends and cousins, etc. KIDS not tables, LOL.

I don’t remember ever having a coffee table in our home growing up. We had a couch, a chair, and an end table. The kids usually sat on the floor. I just never thought about it till now. Spartan decor!

When I was a kid we didn't have a coffee table.

Separate stacks of Jet and Ebony magazines, and a bowl of those round soft peppermints always placed in the middle.
At Christmas time, Mom changed out the peppermints in the bowl for those mixed nuts in their shell, with nutcrackers -- but that was only for Christmas through New Years.

There was always a runner, whether it was made by my grandmother, or store-bought. Copies of TV Guide, National Enquirer, The Sun, and at Christmas, candies and nuts. Sometimes we'd have a vase of fake flowers in the center or a big three wick candle with a flower ring.
