@gidgetgh   I'm so sorry for your loss.  I don't think I remember reading that your husband passed away!

I'm lucky in that I inherited my mother's trait of not holding onto things for sentimental or  various other reasons.  However, I do find myself occasionally going through my closet cabinets, etc. and sorting out things for goodwill.  I did that at the beginning of the pandemic  and just recently unloaded several boxes of "things" at Goodwill.  It's amazing how we can accumulate things without really realizing it.

I have a clutter problem and would like to give things away, but have trouble with the expensive things. I have tried to give away my hardly used Kitchen Air mixer for instance. My son't girlfriend doesn't have room for it, my niece doesn't want it and neither did my friend. It is expensive for postage to put it on ebay and I don't want to just give it to the Goodwill. Other things like a Calphalon spagetti pot and other heavy things are also a problem. And clothes...I tell myself not to buy any more clothes from QVC since I have some still with the tags on. They cost too much now anyway. I told my son to put a box full on ebay and he could have the money, but so far he is too busy. I really need to downsize so when I die, my sons don't have to deal with my piles of stuff, but it is so overwhelming, I don't do it.  I was going to have an organizer help but that was going to cost several hundred dollars and it is up to me to just Do it.

@gidgetgh -

I'm with you!

I've had many similar feelings and give aways!

I'm purging my closet of items that are too big on me or that I just don't wear for whatever reason.  I'm tossing makeup, too.

Since I am unhappily cooking more out of necessity, I do think about buying a few more appliances but then talk myself out of them due to storage issues.

We are accumulating ridiculous amounts of puzzles😏

It's not hard to get an account on ebay if you want to try to sell some items yourself.

If you are overwhelmed, just do a very small amount at a time.  I do that with all types of jobs, cleaning, organizing, purging.

You're right about the amount of stuff you need.

I was always glad that places like Crate & Barrel sell glassware by the piece.  And Fiesta sells by the piece as well online.  I don't need 6 of anything let alone 12.

I tend to buy 2 of something and then if I feel like 3 or 4 would be better so that I don't have to wash them over and over, I might do that.

Any time I can avoid a set of something, I do.

@geegerbee  Does your son or son's girlfriend have a Facebook account? Maybe

you can ask them and if they do, you can get them to take a picture of your Kitchen

Aid mixer, pot and any other items you would like to get rid of. There are multiple

selling sites on FB and if they are willing to help you possibly can sell your things

locally, no shipping, and make some money. Just a suggestion.

@gidgetgh   Each time I moved (I moved 6 times since 1999) I downsized.  We accumulate so much stuff that we really don't need.  I could care less about china and sterling silver so that was given to my niece.  I am in the midst of going through clothes and donating.  If you ever get lonely get yourself a pet.  Cats are lovable and if you purchase a purebred some of the breeds are very intelligent and make wonderful companions.  I own a Tonkinese that is super friendly, independent, very smart.  She retrives from the day I brought her home.  Dogs are a lot of work.  Training, walking, etc.  But I do love dogs but love cats more.  LOL   I also want to say that I send my condolences to you and hope you are doing well.
