I run or clean when I feel stressed and try to stay as busy as I can.

Put on my headphones (listen to music) and take a long walk.

I'm like you, lizzief. The couple times in my life I gained significant unwanted weight was from overeating due to stress. Now, when I think about reaching for sweets, I calm myself down in the moment by taking deep breaths, mentally saying "Stop!" and, instead, making a cup of tea or drinking lemon water.

Exercise or find something to organize/clean. It is my way of saying I have complete control over my life even when there are days that I do not.
For me eating is for sadness but not stress.

Here's what I can't do: eat, sleep, read or concentrate. If I try to read, I find I read the same paragraph over and over. If I go to the market, I find "mystery food" in my pantry (Did I buy that?)
I tend to throw myself into mindless physical activity, like weeding, painting walls, washing windows. This is my "high stress" behavior.
For the "normal stress" that might pop up, I munch, lose myself in a book or tv binge. My favorite de-stressor is spending time with little kids and Play Doh, crayons and paste.

I listen to classical music. Bach's Air on the G String is one song in particular that calms me. Another is Pachelbel's Canon in D.

If I'm really stressed and worried I can't eat and I hate to admit that I smoke. I know, I know, it's a nasty habit and I seriously need to quit. Plus my family history is really bad especially on my Mother's side. I didn't start until I was in my 30's which is worse. If a situation is really bad it's basically coffee and a cigarette. The only thing good is I lose weight until things calm down or the situation is resolved..

When I'm stressed, I definitely cannot eat or even look at food. I'll usually put something funny on tv like an old "I Love Lucy" episode. Or, I'll do a half hour on the elliptical machine.
I'd love to learn to meditate.

When I'm stressed out or angry or hurt or in physical pain; I eat. I wish I were one of those people who has no appetite when they are stressed. That's why I try to keep unhealthy food OUT of the house and it's also why I order my groceries online and have them delivered. If it isn't in the house....I can't eat it. If I don't go into any grocery stores....I won't buy things I really don't want to eat. I'll eat cookies and icecream if they are in the house but thankfully I have some control; regardless of how strong my snack cravings are, I would never go out and buy something.
