I guess if my underwear has changed color, then it's time to toss it!  I don't think I need anyone to tell me that.

I keep my underware forever unless it is ripped (large rips), badly stained, or plain so out of shape it is more a huge leaf bag than underware.

I just replaced all my underpants. My old ones were huge and so out of shape. I have lost some weight so the size I was wearing of old, just way to big,the underpants were falling of me. I purchased  just my size underware,they are OK but nothing to write home about. 

if undershirts/undershorts are discolored and still usable I still let my dh wear them until he says time to get rid of them.

DH's socks get tattered quickly due to a ankle brace he must wear....the white cotton ones go into the ragbag and the others get tossed. I wash but he folds and puts his stuff away. I can't stand ratty-looking socks or undies so  I "screen" the socks and undies before washing and many just disappear into the trash....he never notices....😉

I'm not going to wear anything that looks raggedy be it panties or bras.  

I do all the laundry and if I notice anything of DH's that looks worn, I'll toss.  I keep old t shirts for odd jobs, although he rarely wears white t shirts.

I do keep old clothes specifically for messy jobs like painting for both of us.
