Our phones have voice caller id so if I don't hear someone I know's name I don't answer.  The ringers also turn off at 8:30

Re: When You Answer The Phone And No One Is There...

This is really great information; thank you for sharing. I no longer have a home phone (cell only) and lately have noticed a rise in numbers I don't recognize. Also spam texts.

The problem with not answering some of these robo calls is that they will continue to call until you answer and listen to the message.  At the end of the message they often give you the option to "press one to hear more" or "press two to be removed from the call list."   Unfortunately, hanging up doesn't give you the result you hope for.

I usually listen long enough to press two.

most of these calls happen while I am at work, so when I get home, I just delete the messages.

Re: When You Answer The Phone And No One Is There...

I may have received one of these calls yesterday.  I never answer unrecognizable numbers but did yesterday and no one was there.  I was expecting two calls from companies and I don't think I'd recognize the numbers so I just answered thinking it was a legitimate call.

I looked up the number on the internet and others were reporting the same thing happened to them.

I just blocked the number.

Re: When You Answer The Phone And No One Is There...

I rarely answer the phone if I do not recognize the number but it seems this day and time, most calls that come in do not have a name. By the way when I do decide to answer one of those calls have NEVER heard an option to press any number to no longer receive such a call. They are unsolicited calls and just continue to come in. When there is a rare chance a person finally comes on the line from the number calling, I tell them immediately to not call my number again. When I have blocked numbers, often they change their phone number by one digit - they have it figured out.

I have an answering machine & caller ID. If the caller doesn't leave a message  I know it's not a valid call & I report them to NoMoRobo. Before I do that though I google the number to see if I can find out who the caller might be.

Re: When You Answer The Phone And No One Is There...

I have a stubborn streak when telephone scammers keep on with the incessant calls.  I don't care how many times they call, I never, ever answer them.  All go to voicemail.

The annoying debt collector calls started last November. Since I have been debt free for many years these were especially irritating. And I got the threatening IRS scam call too.

These people don't understand my mindset: the only way they might get a response is to show up at my door with a SWAT team and handcuffs.

I've been getting calls like this withput a voice and also calls with a recorded message about loaning money. I have caller ID, so when I see calls from umfamiliar numbers, I don't answer them. Then I block all calls like these.

Re: When You Answer The Phone And No One Is There...

I get a  couple of these every day on the line with no caller ID.  There should be a law against this intrusion, against all telemarketing. It's outrageous.  Supposedly if you ask them to take you off the caller list, they are supposed to do it, but often they just hang up.

Re: When You Answer The Phone And No One Is There...

it has been said many times before here

DONOT answer these calls let them go to voice mail and if you have the ability block them.

answering lets the caller know their is a real person at that number.

anyone who wants to talk to you will leave a message
