ABSOLUTELY no need for term limits. Why get rid of someone who does a good job? The problem is with the voters. Voters don't demand. . . voters aren't educated on the issues. Voters pick a party, vote that party only, and it is like the World Wide Wresteling from then on. It's a game and a sham, and people are NOT voting on the real issues that affect this country.
All we know to do is take a side. . .
I used to think the same thing about term limits. We have elections every 2-4-6 years, so the voters can term limit them, right?
I've now changed my mind on this. Any incumbent has way more chances than someone new. The reason is MONEY. They can raise way more money. And money truly is the mother's milk of politics.
It costs SO MUCH MONEY today to be elected that few have the ability to raise that much. So, getting someone different to run is really difficult.
The only thing most professional politicians really care about is keeping their job - getting re-elected. We citizens do not have any real representation anymore. It is those who donate the money who are represented.

Integrity --public officials , is that an oxymoron?

I think the problem starts with parents first, then celebrities/politicians. Some parents act like idiots, talk hate, abuse others, are prejudiced, and such... then their kids treat others at school the same way..... and parents wonder why their kids act like that (while they punish the kids). Parents don't see themselves in their kids.
I also believe a lot of the hate re-started 7 years ago. There have been so many lies, so much hateful and prejudiced rhetoric, and just plain craziness, because of one man in the public eye. Why would people think that is wrong when it's done every minute of every day and shown on the news countless times every single day? Kids will follow their parents' lead on this too.
It's pathetic that so many politicians and celebrities pander to the lowest common denominator.

calminthe heart - ITA with you that it is a shame that some of our media promotes hatred and racism because , you are right, that is what our children learn. Esp. in homes where the TV is on one channel 24/7 just pounding out that hate and prejudice. Heck, they are still going after him all day long and his term is almost over. I don't even understand the point in it now as he is almost history.
Abe Lincoln said "You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time." I predict that some day in the future many people are going to wake up and say WHAT HAVE I BEEN THINKING? I keep hoping one day those who love to say they are Christians but who live daily lives filled with hate will have a light go on and see that is exactly what Jesus said we should not do.

I think the law that is needed is that no candidate should be allowed to publicly , in any forum, say anything at all about any other candidate. They should only be allowed to talk about their own history and their own plans for what they are planning to do. no negative campaigning should be allowed. Now a days the candidates never tell us what they have in mind - but use all their advertising to berate the opponent.

And let's not forget greed. I am from NJ...it is harder to find a good and honest politician than a bad one. In my town, our past Mayor was in office since the Kennedy administration. He was unopposed except once, that person received death threats, her car was vandalized and a brick thrown through her window; she withdrew. He died last year and his son is acting Mayor who will run unopposed in November. The same Family for another 40 years! Term limits! Yes, here!

A very smart man I knew once clarified how political parties endorse certain people .....
I was complaining about a certain candidate and "how could this possibly be the best and brightest this party has to offer?" ..... and he told me that no party thinks in terms of who is their "best and brightest" .... they think in terms of "who can we get elected?"
I couldn't dispute that.

Please reconsider voting. It's YOUR right and YOU are the only one who loses when you don't vote. You can't complain if you don't vote.
