No, you're not unreasonable.  I wouldn't want to complete my stay there.  If one room has ants, I'd expect others would as well.

Is this Homewood Suites Schaumburg owned by Hilton Hotels? Guests complaining of ants in the kitchen, even in microwaves.

@Foxxee  Maybe that's why the hotel didn't comp the room. If it's an ongoing problem.

Re: What would you do?

[ Edited ]

@Luvsmyfam     I have worked for Hilton Worldwide.    Except for the "flagship hotels" (like the Palmer House, or Waldorf Astoria), "most" Hilton Hotels are franchises (the actual "owners" are investment groups).

So.......you need to find out who the General Manager is of the Schaumburg location.  This info is probably on their website.    Contact him/her by PHONE, and present your complaint.   (Desk clerks do not really have much authority.)

You can also report the hotel to the Cook (or DuPage) County Board of Health, depending on which county the particular hotel is located.

Hilton does not tolerate bugs, or any kind of vermin, filth, etc., in their "branded" hotels.   Sorry your experience was less than satisfactory.

This is not typical of  Chicago, (although Schaumburg is a fairly distant suburb, 30 miles out).

Hope this helps.    di

P.S.:    Edited to add........You can contact your credit card company for assistance.

I would at this point leave a review on Yelp or Trip Advisor.  Share your experience and what the hotel did to compensate you.  Your OP isn't clear if you stayed there the entire weekend.  One night would have been enough for me.

Why not call the front desk when you discovered the ants and given them the opportunity to correct the problem? If you tolerate an issue for your stay and only bring it up at check out, the assumption could bar made it wasn’t a big deal for you. Not unlike if you eat 80% of a meal and then complain about it.

@Luvsmyfam     I hope you have saved your photos, and decide to contact the GM of the Schaumburg hotel.    You may not get a refund, but they should at least comp a FUTURE night, depending on occupancy.

Actually, the "high price" has little to do with this situation.    The bugs could have been brought in by a previous guest, and were not yet visible to Housekeeping or Maintenance.    Good luck.....even though you may NOT want to repeat your visit with that particular hotel.    It's certainly worth a phone call to bring this matter to their attention.....just for your own satisfaction!   di
