Re: What would you do if you won the Powerball jackpot?

My sister and I each buy a ticket and of course would split it. We actually just won $21.00.As for the big bucks like everyone one else would get an accountant, make sure that those that have helped me so much the past few years would get a big share, the charities I now support, and of course,  would share with what few family members I now have.I'm old, so not much I need but would fix up my house.

Re: What would you do if you won the Powerball jackpot?

I have had this discussion before with many people.  I've said that there is no way I would want that much money. Most who commented said that they would have no problem with it....right.

I would however love to win enough to give my kids and brother some.  I would love to give my DD so she can move out of her place in Philly (which they want to do) and move not too far from us.

It would be great if DD and her husband could buy a house in a nice community with a yard and driveway.  Right now they are expecting and it would be nice to be close by to help with the baby when he arrives in March.  They hope to move over the summer but housing has gone up so much the last few years it's crazy!  It really hasn't gone down much at all the last few months here.

My brother is dealing with his partner who has Lewy Body dementia.  I would love to give him enough money to be able to buy a nice place near me so he can be near family and when the time comes could put his partner in a nice memory care facility.

Right now they are in the St. Louis area where housing is much less and if he sold his place I don't think he could afford to come back to my area.  He and his partner have just barely enough to be comfortable without this awful disease changing their lives dramatically.

Of course it would be nice to have some for us also to do whatever I wanted regarding some travel (would love to fly private).

Otherwise I don't want that kind of money....I would feel that I needed to start some sort of charitable foundation if I had that much.

I don't know.  I thought about what I would do many times with that much money.

I don't need anything or want for anything. I have no debt.

I would probably give it away to family and friends and people in need. The school where I used to volunteer needs a new playground.  People need help paying for school lunches.  I'd pay for my Grands college eduction.

There needs to be more affordable housing.  There are so many people who could use a helping hand.

Before I retired I would have said I would travel.  But, I have a pair of knees that prevents me from doing that now.  I have traveled all over the world, but those days are over.

I suppose I'd have to come out of retirement to plan and distribute my winnings to those in need.

I would immediately call all my family and some good friends, and tell them we are splitting the winning ticket.  Then call my co-worker from my previous job (she's a senior CPA), and let her handle everything from there on.

Then, sell my home and car, travel and live in hotels and condos whereever I wanted to.

Find and honest and reputable lawyer and accountant. Taxes, buy a nice house ( no mansion ) where it's cool in the summer and buy another house where it's warm in the winter. My husband would set up a yearly payout for his brother because if he got a lump sum all at once he would blow it. Some animal charities would be very happy.

Re: What would you do if you won the Powerball jackpot?

First I would not want to be identified. I would consult with an accountant I trusted.  I would make sure my family was "rewarded."  My grandchildren would be my priority.  I would select a few charities that I identify with and donate.

As for me personally, I might take a cruise, travel to a few places.  I might even consider a vacation home and a new car but that would be the last thing I would do.

I have thought about this for a long time. With that amount of money I could make a difference.  After taking care of family, really take care of them and some outlandish gift to myself  I would open a battered women's shelter.

FIRST OFF.....I would invest the money and set up a charitable foundation to distribute the INCOME, in order to establish  perpetual donations.
