IammrsG....
I don't care what other people spend. We have a perfectly great refrigerator and there's no need to replace it; wish we could have said the same for our Kenmore front loader washing machine that we only had for about 10 years. We recently replaced that with an LG model and with tax it came to around $829, Got it over Memorial Day on sale and we are satisfied with our purchase. I'm sure there are other deals out there for refrigerators as well during the holidays.

It says Kenmore BUT it is a LG - absolutely detest it. Ahhhhhhhh for the days when Sears had great products like Whirlpools. Sure it said Kenmore but they were outstanding. This thing is pure junk in my opinion but am stuck with it
I tend to stick with Sears as my family was career military. And Sears was the ONLY company which would ship Christmas gifts, clothing, etc to a foreign country - way back when. Am talking about right after WWII - they were absolutely outstanding and I will always be grateful to that company and their caring for our military. Will never forget all those BIG BOXES saying Sears which arrived for the holidays - such excitement when we realized they came across a very big ocean to get to us - and they did!!!

We own a LG 362 Litres
Its a nice large capacity fridge with freezer compartments, instant cold water and ice and low running costs.

Thank you so much everyone! I now have a ton of information to digest. I am hoping I won't have to buy now, but if I do you have no idea how much I appreciate all the input.
The consensus here seems to be that Whirlpool is a good option.
I find it interesting about others having problems with condensation and things freezing and blocking airways. This is our problem.
I am bookmarking this thread for mr henny to read.
Will check back later and will let you know what happens.
I believe that Whirlpool is made in the USA, which is an added bonus in my opinion.

I do not believe Kenmore makes the LG BUT they do put their ID on it. Eons ago you bought a Kenmore and it was a Whirlpool - great products. Today SEars puts their ID on other mfgs - unfortunately one is the LG. It is pure junk in my opinion. Interesting in that LG also makes cell phones. LOL. Heaven knows what else they make. LOL.

Well...the front loader washer I bought was highly rated so I'm keeping my fingers crossed, Thanks for the info.

An appliance salesman (Best Buy?) told us that LG stands for Lucky Goldstar.
Remember Goldstar from back in the 70's? My BFF got a Goldstar stereo when she was about 13 or 14 for her b-day and she cried her eyes out in front of everyone. lol.
(I was so happy to have my brother's Harmon Karden hand- me- down.)
But they have upped their game and become a very reputable company.

I have a GE Profile side by side, about 15 years old, It has customized wood panels so it blends right in with the kitchen cabinets. It works well except for the ice maker which has given me grief the last 5 years or so. The metal coil which propels the ice has rusted in spots (didn't they think to make this in stainless?) and there is minor leakage when the icemaker runs, so I've just turned it off by raising the lever and I removed the whole icemaking unit which gives me more space in the freezer.
I guess I could try to have it repaired but it's not a critical issue. We don't use lots of ice (just 2 of us) and I keep 3 ice trays for our use. I've never used the water/ice dispenser in the door. I dread replacing the fridge because I don't want all these bells and whistles that eventually break/cause trouble.
