No, I wouldn't give him cash unless this becomes a regular occurrence.  Then I would set up some sort of schedule and payment just like any other professional help.

What are you planting?  Maybe a bouquet or Veggie basket as the blooms mature as a thanks for his help earlier in the season.

100%!

He offered to do a kindness. IMO, to give him a gift card or cash would turn the good deed into payment for him doing a job.

Bake something like a small batch of cookies, brownies, or muffins.  Include a hand written thank you note and leave it at that.

Please don't bake anything. Like some Posters said, a gift card would be great but in what amount?

If you are quite certain that he did this as a favor and didn't expect payment, offering cash or a gift card would be insulting.  I'd show my gratitude to by giving him a gift card to fast food restaurant or coffee shop.  I'd include a thank you note.

@Mindy D  I was thinking the same thing.  He said he used to do the same thing for his Mom who died 2 yrs ago and he missed doing that.  I am probably the same age as her.  I know he was doing this because he wanted to.

After talking to my daughter, she suggested the same........bake him some brownies Smiley Happy

Yes I would compensate him as well...nothing wrong with money. Someone mentioned an Amazon gift card- I may be in the minority but I rarely shop Amazon..I did just place an order for something but Amazon was my last resort.

Don't bake or cook anything.  It may end up in the trash.  You don't know how he feels about eating someone's food or his dietary restrictions.  Gift card would be best!
