@goldensrbest Our local libary gladly accepts gently used books.  Most thrift shops also appreciate books as donations!

@151949 - FYI Libraries do not always take books when you are looking to donate them. Sometimes they only take them at certain times of the year. In my case, I had many books to donate and they didn't want them until October - well this was July and I could not hold onto them.

I ma not exactly sure what this is called, but in my sister's neighborhood, several homes have a little book rack near their mail box, and you can put books in there that you no longer want, as well as take the books that you might be interested in reading. Her subdivision is probably about a mile, and there are several of these throughout her sub division. She loves it because you always have somewhere to take your already read books to, and you can always pick up a new book....

I am not sure what the exact name is called, but it seems to be quite popular and a good way to get rid of excess books as well...

It's a movement called Little Free Library. You can read more about it here: https://littlefreelibrary.org/about

@CANDLEQUEEN Our neighborhood just recently put out a box like that across the street, so many kids over the summer would use that little box, the one across the street is for kids book,  but if someone were to put in an adult book it might inspire others to do it also?  But then again, I would not want a child to pick up an inappropriate book either?

If your church does not have a library or a book sale, then I would contact other churches to see if they do - and if they would like these books.

Our church has both and we always appreciate donations - so I think you'll be able to give them away without too much problem.

We donate our books to either Goodwill or the library.

Most times the library will take them any time, there is one small branch that only takes them at certain times of the year.

Just dropped a box, of probably every Mr. Food cookbook ever printed, yesterday to the library.

@goldensrbest  If you have a recycling center nearby that takes paper, you can recycle the books.  Or, if you have a local library with a used bookstore, you can donate the books.  I've done both :-)

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

@CareBears I never thought of it as maybe kids would use the box as well. I guess you could always have two boxes. Yes you wouldn't want kids getting a hold of adult books for sure......I think it is such a good idea though, and my sister said she has read more books that she probably never would have otherwise!

Please don't dump them on a charity unless you know they want those particular books.  If you have a church, ask them if they want the books or ask if they have a book drive coming up.  My church has a yearly book drive.  You can also post a "free spirtual books" add in your supermarket.  Someone might want them.  Otherwise, if you don't want them, recycle them.
