Re: What to do with Hummels?

@momtochloe  I only read the thread header and nothing else when I responded.  I know so many people who collected these figurines back in the 50s and 60s because they truly liked them.  I am glad you found someone who knows what to do with them.

Be well!

Collectibles are a very personal thing and I have no problem at all when one generation has no interest in carrying a collection forward but for those that would like to ensure a loved one's collection is handled well (and like me are not interested in getting involved with eBay) this was a great option.

Right now I have a ton of vinyls (LP's) that if I can't find someone to take they will be in a dumpster next week . . . it hurts but life goes on . . . Smiley Happy

Look for record stores that buy them off you. Google vinyl record stores near you online.

Thank you for the suggestion @JustJazzmom but unfortunately the one place close to me closed a couple of years ago and the rest are in Chicago and I am not interested in driving there as I am a suburban mouse.  I hope my friend comes through with her friend, that would make me very happy as it is a great collection (according to me) . . . @mtc  I'm glad you had a resolution to your problem.  I'm late coming to the thread, but for anyone else in the Chicagoland area, there is a Hummel museum in Rosemont that may be able to help you.  I've never been, but it might be useful to look into if you have a similar issue, or just love Hummels...

Re: What to do with Hummels?

One more thing.... everything goes around.  It's been about 20 yeras since collectibles were the rage and that's because people had (at the time) quite a bit of disposable income.  If that kind of money happens again, people will start looking for enjoyable ways to spend it.

Also true with styles, antiques and anything out there that has lost popularity.  Also within the Antique genre... popularity of items are always coming in and going out.  Right now I'm seeing a resurgence in a type of item that was extremely popular in the late 90's to the middle 2000's then dropped off until now.  Stuff I packed away from then (that I was trying to sell and couldn't) just sold quickly.  It's fun and frustrating at the same time.

Re: What to do with Hummels?

I have many Hummels, and love them, but right now they are in a box because I have no where to display them.

Some were my grandmother's, some were my mom's, and a few my husband bought me in his TDY's to Germany when we were first married. They have meaning to me.

I know my kids won't want them, so they will probably end up with a dealer or Goodwill. Sad, really.

Re: What to do with Hummels?

Anyone know about Swarovski Crystal small animal, flowers and such small (2inch) figurines??

I wish I could sell these....I see them on ebay for price points all over but are people really selling them??

I am thinking these are one of those collectibles people got duped into back in the 80's and are most likely not worth anything??

Opinions??? Ideas????

Re: What to do with Hummels?

@tsavorite  We inherited tons of Swarovski crystal figurines---plus Lladro and Hummels---from my husband's aunt.   I have sold some of the Swarovski pieces on ebay.  A couple weeks ago I sold a tiny (about inch and a half tall) owl for $20.  So, it's not great, but probably as good as any place else.  If you take them to a consignment store, they don't the big exposure like ebay, plus those stores usually take 50 % commission.  HTH a little bit.  :-)
