Re: What' to do in Manhatten?

THE HORSE CARRIAGES CAN ONLY GO THROUGH CENTRAL PARK, NO MORE

STREETS. NEW RULE BY THE MAYOR.  HE DIDN'T. GET RID OF THEM  BECAUSE IT'S PART OF NEW YORK, AND THE HORSES MUST BE PROPERLY TAKEN CARE OFF.   SOMEONE WAS HIRED TO BE IN CHARGE TO MAKE SURE.

YES, IT IS PRICEY...

Not true. They're still on the streets. They are driven through the streets to get to and from the boarding points at the Park. The horses still have to navigate NYC traffic and streets on a daily basis.  Passengers have to board at the Park. Furthermore, the paths in the park are paved streets, not grass or dirt. They're not well-taken care of. They still have to trudge through all kinds of weather for hours on end. de Blasio caved to pressure.

It's no longer the St. Moritz and hasn't been for years.

Casual is good for me.  I am going to look up Alices right now.   My granddaughter is booking the Plaza Palm room for tea.  I just told her and she is very excited.  I could use 20 or 30 of those little sammies right now.  Missed breakfast and lunch today.  Heading for the fridge now, lol.

hi @shoekitty  - I'm enjoying this thread, since I'm a New York girl as well, although we don't go into the city nearly as often as I'd like. I checked out the Dominick Hotel and it's gorgeous! There are so many accomodations with views to die for! I'm very into hotel rooms and the views. Try for a corner room if you can. Enjoy your vacation!!

Re: What' to do in Manhatten?

FYI, Statue of Liberty will take the better part of a day.

I recommend Museum of Natural History for kids.  I don't know if Central Park still has horse and buggy rides?  There's always the Central Park Zoo.

If you can get tickets to Radio City Music Hall that would be great fun.

And please don't eat at a chain restaurant.  So many ethnic places to find wonderful food.  And you must have NY pizza.  Last time I was in NYC it seemed all the chain food places were on the main streets and the great little restaurants were on the side streets.  Ray's Pizza is a famous pizzeria.

Just a suggestion.....if you want to have a glorious breakfast (The Blue Box Cafe) for not too high a price (at least in NY that is) make reservations beforehand to eat at "Tiffany's" It is an experience like no other and everyone I have spoken to has enjoyed it immensely.

Go the Holiday Market at Bryant Park.  There are so many interesting food vendors and the cutest little shops.  One of my favorites that I discovered last year was Melsys.

That is horrible.  I was just in NYC for a week and saw horses on the streets.  I wondered about that.  I wish they'd just do away with the carriage rides.  No horse needs to do that.   People can take the pedi rides/tours thru the park.  At least the 'pullers' have a say in doing it.

A must see is the 9/11 Memorial, IMO.

I would try to get tickets to see a holiday show or a broadway show while you're there.  Having tea at the Plaza during the holidays would be on my list of things to do.
