Re: What statistics would you like the news to report on?

I'm tired of hearing it all!   I do listen to the first 15 minutes of local news twice a day, and let it go at that.

I applaud you for lasting 15 minutes

And to answer the question, I don't want to see any statistics unless it's followed by context and EXPERT analysis.

Locally the transportation people are obsessed with traffic circles.    There was a spirited discussion in my FB group about how safe they are, including links to statistics.   My 2 cents?  I found just as many statistics to show there are not any more safe than a traditional intersection.

I’d like to see reports based on numbers which are reproducible and stand on actual supportable data.

Cut the ‘they say’, ‘someone said’, and ‘I heard’, they are of no use/interest to me.

None, you can never trust statistics. imo

It’s easy to make statistics tell whatever story you want the reader/viewer to believe, hence, the saying, “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

@MorningLover

Is that true if they support your views?

I was taught in a Research/ Statistic college class years ago that the results can be skewed to whatever outcome you desire. I take them with a grain of salt. Everyone seems to be an expert.

Statistics can be biased like most anything else and have a margin if error. It has to be proven over and over and not just in the short term. Long range is also necessary.

I think it's pretty wild that some of you want to live your life going forward without the benefit of statistics. Not sure how you are going to cope. I know for sure that none of you anti-statistics folks own businesses, that's for certain.

Currently there are more than 600 people listed as 'missing' in my state of Colorado. In the past month they have found two of the missing people, both found to be cold-case murder victims whose perps have been arrested. I like hearing about stuff like that. Cold cases are so interesting to me, especially when they go on the news.

I don't watch the news anymore. I demand the truth not a news casters' opinion.
