What’s your weather today, 2/4/24

[ Edited ]

tell about your weather and where you live. Enquiring minds want to know lol. I'll start

Heavy rain, gusty winds in central Florida. Expected to end soon and be partly sunny with temps around 70.
Visitors who chose Dec, Jan, or early Feb to vacation here were likely disappointed. We've had a chilly cloudy winter

The good news is, spring comes to our area in mid to late February so that's something I'm looking forward to. It's still a surprise even after five years here. I'm so used to the Michigan springs not really happening until May

@smoochy

Funny you ask. I was talking to both daughters yesterday. We discussed our weather. Daughter in Colorado sent a pic of them covered in snow and "freezing" weather. My daughter in Carlsbad said it was very rainy and cold (for Carlsbad) at 60. I am in Kauai and it was very, very windy at 72.

Something bad is going to happen weather wise in California.  An "Atmospheric river" is going to strike.  Anyone knows anything about that, I appreciate it.  I saw this on CNN today.

EDIt: Evacuation ordered.  Just now.

@songbird I realize the Atmospheric River with the Pineapple Express sounds dire. But, the news loves to portray things as dire and doom. I'm sure California will get a lot of rain, and much flooding since the engineering of buildings, streets, and flood areas weren't designed well for heavy rains. Here is what the national weather says about this weather phenomenon.

Not all atmospheric rivers cause damage; most are weak systems that often provide beneficial rain or snow that is crucial to the water supply. Atmospheric rivers are a key feature in the global water cycle and are closely tied to both water supply and flood risks — particularly in the western United States.

While atmospheric rivers are responsible for great quantities of rain that can produce flooding, they also contribute to beneficial increases in snowpack.
