It doesn't matter to me which word is used. I get the message.

There are a lot worse things than yup being commonly said.

In certain parts of the country, "yup" has evolved to the term "yuppers".
Many years ago, people around here used to say "yow" for yeah. I was very small then. After the Beatles came out, everyone knew it should have been "yeah, yeah, yeah".

I thought it started way back when with the word "Nope."

You know, I am certain I am guilty of starting some positively stupid threads, but I think this one may have me beat.....

SpoilerInstead of people saying the word yes, many are using the word YEP....unbelievable!!! I hear it more and more.
This seriously bothers you? Why?
I see nothing wrong, with informal conversational language.
If I were composing a business letter, I certainly, wouldn't say, " Yep, you betcha, Annie, I understand, your concerns". However, if we were chatting as friends, I might.

I have always said YES and never YEAH or YEP. YES is more proper....and easier to understand if on the phone etc.
I think it is a form of sloppy English to use slang words ...maybe caused by lack of education or lower economic upbringing.
