No one, including my parents, ever gave me any advice about anything, and I sure wish they had.

That way - I have no one to blame but myself!
You are a lot different from me on this topic. I'm not fond of getting unsolicited advice, especially from someone I know is less knowledgeable than myself. Had I not asked for advice tons of times during my life, many things I have accomplished successfully would not be my reality.
Now I am not one that often gives unsolicited advice, however many seem to confuse suggestions with advice. If someone specifically asks me for advice, and I am confident with my knowledge and/or personal experiences with said topic, I offer advice. Most of the time, even according to my wife, with overly detailed explanations.
Everyone is different for sure, just can't comprehend how anyone reaches mid or later life, without any advice along the way. I guess there are some that might, but I am guessing for many of them, things in their lives were more difficult than necessary for that reason.

The WORST advise I ever got was to invest my 401k, I did, lost it all in the 911 stock market crash. To this day I have never psychologically never recovered from the loss.

"You need a college education to have a successful life"! Glad I passed on that one. I found my life was better, and I was more prepared for it, by "living real life", not reading about it. Besides, I could not stand sitting in a classroom for an hour, much less for hours, listening to things in which I had zero interest in knowing.
Terrible advice given me and I still hear and read about this same nonsense now, practically every single day. For some, maybe, but everyone? Definitely not!

Advice isn't telling someone what to do. My parents didn't give me advice, they told me what to do, so I can relate. I never did what my parents advised so any bad decisions I made were on me. I do almost always take my husbands advice on most things and it has served me well so far.

Many years ago it was my moms advice, marry him after all you are carrying his child. Wish I had never listened.

Pick a major, any major in college.

Hmmm . . . I'm sure someone gave me advice when I was young, but I was stubborn and headstrong and probably didn't listen to it. Maybe it was good I had a mind of my own. I very rarely give advice to anyone unless they want it.
