Dad was the family joker. I was nervous beyond belief. I am sure my Mom had probably told him to behave himself. When the music started he grabbed my arm firmly and said, "For Heaven's sake.... don't trip and fall and embarrass me"! You see, NOTHING really embarrasses my Dad! Our photographer snapped the photo right then and we both have our eyes closed and are laughing out loud. My nerves ceased and we walked down the aisle side by side casually.... his grip still firm on my arm. Any "nerves" I had ceased to exist. He knew. While others may have found it unusual....he just "knew" me and knew what I needed at that moment. It still touches my heart till this day. It still makes me cry to realize that moment was him helping me and knowing me well enough to know what it would do for me. I'm shedding a few tears now because he is 86 and is quite feeble and bent over now. He will , however, always stand tall in my eyes. Thanks, Dad.
Yes, he most certainly knew what you needed at that moment. Very heartwarming story and thanks for sharing.
Your welcome, HisElk. I'm thankful for this topic today. For some reason, it set off something I hadn't thought about in some time.

I knew my daughter was going to go back to work and I told her I would watch him in an emergency. Then when I first held him in arms my heart said nobody was going to love his as fiercely as I would. I watched him until he started kindergarten. I call him every day and a few times a month he comes to my house and we do fun projects together mostly science.
Moxie,
The same thing happened to me when I held my first Grandson. I watched him and my mom and dad watched him, and when I longer could do it and he needed friends, my sister watched him in her day care at her home. Nothing quite like that feeling, is there?

I have many, many special memories I hope I can always hang onto: the memories of my paternal grandmother churning butter in the kitchen and singing old hymns; my paternal grandfather and I standing side by side on his front porch watching it rain over the farm and him wiping his brow with his bandana, my maternal grandmother rocking me and singing Rock of Ages, my paternal grandfather's inviting smile when I climbed on his lap with the Christmas catalog, along with many more special moments from my wonderful childhood, and blessed life.

For all you ladies talking about the present. Here is one of my favorite quotes -- "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.”
Bil Keane
One of my favorite memories is - growing up in South America, most of the TV programs were shown in the Spanish language. But two or three times a week, one station would show American movies with Spanish subtitles for those that did not speak English. The movies were shown in the afternoon after I got home from school. My mother and I would sit in front of the small, black and white TV to watch an American movie. We would enjoy our afternoon snack "cafe con leche y pan dulce" (coffee with sweet milk and sweet rolls). Good memories!!!

What a thoughtful thing to do, Moxie.

The first time I saw my husband. Our wedding day. Seeing him return after deployments. The day each of my children were born and all of their firsts. My dad waking up after surgery and my mom being told she was cancer free.

As far as "living in the present" goes, i must go back to my original response- The moment I first held my son, looked into his eyes, locked gaze with him, i felt I was seeing Eternity...
