As a kid I would listen to some great programs w/my Daddy. I remember so many including Gunsmoke w/that Cannon guy, Dragnet, The Shadow, Jack Benny,Edgar Bergen and that Fred guy. One of the great things about radio was trying to imagine what these people looked like.
Oh! just remembered Fibber McGee and Molly.
When I remember those two guys names I will add them.

I listened to the current pop tunes when I was a pre-teen and a teenager and I especially looked forward to the top 40 countdown they'd broadcast them on New Year's Eve. Now the only time I listen to the radio is in the car, on my way to or from work and it's usually a talk show with the topic discussed being whatever is popular on the news that day. At home I now prefer peace and quiet when I'm not watching T.V. Funny, the older I get, the less I listen to music. My mother was like that and I could never understand her preference for quiet over music. I guess I'm turning into my mother. LOL

Like you, I spent my childhood listening to radio in Chicago. We lived in Rogers Park in the 60s and I grew up on WLS and WCFL. And I listened to Franklyn MacCormack. What I remember most is going into businesses and the radio was always on whether it was music or a baseball game.
Moved to Arizona when I was ten and listened to radio there and today when I hear the songs of 1970 I’m right back in Prescott.
Then off to the San Francisco Bay Area. Got a clock radio my first Christmas there and had that thing for decades. Woke up with Dr. Don Rose on KFRC every morning in high school and after school I listened to FM back when they’d play a whole album side. Remember Dr. Demento? The King Biscuit Flower Hour?
When I went off to college at 17, the clock radio and stereo came with me. I’d drive with K-101 on the car radio until I could tune in the station near my college town. When I’d drive home for the holidays I’d know I was almost there when I could pick up San Francisco stations.
And late at night, haven’t you always searched for stations in other states?
I’ll never stop listening to radio. When we lost power after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, I had my battery-operated radio. When I was working at a non-profit in Albuquerque, I kept the radio on in my office. One day I heard the bosque was on fire and homes in a particular neighborhood were threatened. I realized that was where my director had just bought a new townhouse and her dogs were inside. Ran down the hall and told her to grab her purse and get over the bridge before they closed it.
I’ve listened to talk radio forever. I listen to the radio when I get ready for work, I listen in the car. I still have a working Walkman and listen when I walk the dog. I listen on my computer. In fact, we have an oldies station – KDSK Sound Souvenirs – that brings back all the radio memories of my youth.
When I was little my mother would tell me the greatest bedtime stories. Where did she get them? Radio.

I listen to The Ticket 1310AM, a DFW sports radio station every day.
It’s like no other radio out there.
Since 1994, they’ve had the same hosts, same lineup,
same format from 5:30am-7:00pm. These guys are like family.
We have a huge following...with a language of our own.
Every year, they have "Ticketstock” in February where they
broadcast live on a stage all day...and 1,000x of us fans will just sit &
watch them talk. It’s a wonderful family! Love it.

I used to listen to Loveline. I'm not really a radio person, most of the stuff I iisten to isn't on the radio anyway.

I began listening to music on the radio as a teenager. I had one in my bedroom; however, it only had AM stations which went off air at midnight. Fast forward to today and I mostly listen to talk radio when I’m in the car. I still like to take a Walkman on my walks because it has AM/FM stations. The Ipod only carries FM. Our NPR station plays old radio shows from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s on Sunday nights – Johnny Dollar, Gunsmoke, Dragnet, etc. I love those. My absolute favorite thing is to take a walk on a warm summer night and listen to those old radio shows.

Oh yes those memories....one of the most treasured gifts I got as a teenager was a transistor radio and a clock radio for my bedroom. The favorite stations were top 40 music on KTSA and KONO -the British Invasion and Motown hits were the popular tunes of the time...And as @SilleeMee said we couldnt wait to hear Casey Kasem's counting down America's Top 40 for the week.............
Now a days I do turn off the TV when there's nothing worth watching and listen to music while doing household chores or reading, or on my laptop or tablet or driving in the car (I like a variety -current music hits, music from 40's/50's--(learned to appreciate that era from my parents who always had the radio on), or I listen to classic rock, or inspirational, or sports talk, or sometimes regular talk radio)

Radio was always a media of last resort for me. It was/is an in the car only thing.
