Re: What's Your "Phobia"?

[ Edited ]

Germs. I use hand sanitizer discretely every time l have to shake someone's hand.

Flying. Haven't flown anywhere in decades.

Staircases where the steps have no risers, so you can see through to the level below as you're walking up.

Large crowds of people in a confined area, all exiting at once, like a stampede.

Xrays, CAT scans, or any other tests that expose me to radiation.

Driving through a car wash, having a facial (I had one once and never again)--claustrophobic

I love facials, but I am too somewhat claustrophobic, and when the facialist put the cloth over my face, I pulled it off so quick and said no, I can't have this over my whole face...So from now on, I will ask for the steaming treatment instead.........I also breathe a sigh of relief when finishing a car wash......

@RetRN , @CANDLEQUEEN : Ditto re: driving through a car wash. I thought it was just me, lol.

My most disabling phobia is freeway driving. I can't do it. One time I accidentally went up an on-ramp, had to drive to the nearest off-ramp, get back on to go in the right direction for a mile or so. It was NIGHTTIME, too. Thank God that I somehow managed to keep my wits about me. Oh, and btw, I live just outside Los Angeles, where freeways reign.

I once mentioned this to the apparently wrong person, a woman who replied wondering how my husband puts up with that. She's lucky I just stared at her.:-)

For a relatively short period of time, I was afraid that when I walked through a door to get outside, I would be locked out. That was a strange one.

I have a phobia about edges. I cannnot get near the edge of a hill or even a railing in a shopping mall.

I used to be deadly afraid of flying. Some time ago, though, it disappeared.  Good thing since we're flying to Tanzania in August -- many, many, many hours. I have somehow convinced myself that I don't care if its the end, ironic given my next phobia.

My most frightening phobia is my demise, my total disappeance. Since I am a non-believer, I can't soothe myself in the ways that others can. There are times I wake up in a cold sweat actually imagining the reality of it.

I have several. Planes for one. I will never fly anywhere. Have not since a child.

..but, one that Imust put up with occasionally is driving on freeways. I never drive on freeways myself.....never have.   Only on side streets.

But as a passenger in a car on a freeway....I am a nervous wreck and almost to the point of hysterical.

Hummm??? Is there enough paper/room here?  I think phobia is an extreme word (when it comes to some of my dislikes).

Germs/bacteria from other people, but as far as phobias, well I prefer to call them dislikes.

My biggest phobia is being in a car when there is snow or ice on the roads.  This panic extends to knowing my family is driving in those conditions.

I am phobic about the dentist, too.  This stems from experiences with dentists back in the 50s and 60s.

@handygal2 When I see your moniker, it makes me smile.  Especially today when so many of the Disney people/ladies/females some of us grew up with have taken such a 'hit'  for whatever reasons.

Seeing Snow White's picture still and will always make me smile (as does many of your posts and hearts).  Heart
