Re: What "popular" phrases drive you nuts?

Zzzzussszzzzhhhh (sp) it up. I only hear this on QVC meaning to pull up the sleeves or something similar. Ugh!

It is what it is

WE'RE pregnant

Preggers

Knocked up (referring to a woman getting pregnant). I hate this!

With that being said

Another one I hate is let me "pick your brain" for a minute. I can just picture somebody picking at my brain.

Another one I don't care for is "chill".

Bob is such a nice guy. He's so chill.

I think it's horrible grammar.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I don't care for "baby daddy" either.  Or baby mama.

FURBABY!!!!

It's a creepy mental image and I really dislike hearing adults use babytalk in everyday discourse.

It might be cute on a four-year-old but those 5 years of age and older should refrain from using the word.

Oh, furbaby, yes.  Unless you have 4 legs and fur, this is not your baby.  You did not give it birth.  Quit calling it your baby!

I'm sure all the adoptive mothers will be vexed to hear that the child they adopted is not their baby since they did not give it birth.

Popular with young people:

"Late to the party"

calling everyone, male or female "dude"

"antivaxer"

This is because people don't remember actual names!

I've noticed a trend toward responding with, Awwwwww to any and everything. I find it curious and wonder from where it came and what it means.

I've never said 'furbaby', but I have to say that baby talk makes me a little crazy.   I don't like words like hubby, veggies, and a score of others.  I don't begrudge others the words they use, however, as  long as they aren't words of bigotry or hatred but I admit that I do cringe a little with the baby talk words.  Smiley Happy

@chickenbutt  - OMG those are my pet peeves as well! I hate words like veggies, hubby (or hubs), nuke, fridge, sammies (for sandwiches) and "nanners" for bananas. I love the English language and hate to hear it being mangled with silly words.

Personally, I despise when people say "Chill," or "Calm down." Yeah I'll chill and calm down when I'm good and ready, not when you tell me to!!
