This was said if you put way too much food on your plate that you couldn't eat.

 I'll add, "Men are like busses, one comes along , every ten minutes.

 You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

  You can't fix stupid.

   Pretty is as pretty does.

   A stitch in time, saves nine.

   When I would complain about a dinner that I disliked, (like liver), my mother would say "Poor starving children would love to have that dinner".  I would say, "Well, give it to them."

   Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

  My mother had a plethora of these sayings.

Stop & Smell The Roses has been with me since I was a kid.

My dad said that to me. I told him I didn't want to stop & smell the roses. LOL!!!

My parents would call us to get us for school once and if that didn't work they would tell us to "shake a leg." And my dad's favorite saying on Sunday when we were getting ready for church and not moving as fast as he would like was "time marches on."
