i dont have a DVR, but i pay a lot of money to my cable company to have lots of on demand features, HULU, and NETFLIX so that i dont miss anything.
have central air, microwave, ice maker, water on the refrigerator door, extra freezers, cell phones, internet, computers, tablets, landline, car, dishwasher, washer/dryer, garbage disposal.....what am i missing?
_______________
Garage door opener?
Like yourself we avail ourselves of all modern conveniences. I have to have central air because I have asthma and it purifies the air. The same with the dish washer.....it sterilizes the dishes. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.)LOL
LOL.....got it.....remote in the car, keypad outside of the door.

I'm discovering that not wanting a fridge with water and ice in the door narrows my choices down considerably.
I would happily live live without the microwave but it's built in over my stove. I'd prefer an old-fashioned exhaust hood.
Keep your hands off my DVR, Kindle and iPad.

I love ours because if it is raining, you don't need to get out of the car to open the heavy garage door. It is one modern convenience that I think makes life a lot easier.

Sorry @Mominohio, you lost me on this one. You saying that you do not have the internet? Hmmm!

No John! I'm pretty awesome, but even I can't post without internet!! LOL
I don't have any internet on the cell phone (or texting either). We still have the old 'grandma' flip phones.

Nor is it more noble to look down one's nose at those that simply discuss the things people consider 'necessities' at this time, but certainly aren't, and choose to live without for whatever reason.
Don't assume that just because people don't find value in paying for/using many modern conveniences doesn't mean they aren't forward looking.

I'd give up my PC and internet to keep my garage door opener. I never had one till this house, and now can't imagine having to lug open and closed a garage door anymore!

Hmmmmm. What some can and do have and can't live without and what others need etc.
I don't have a bread maker, toaster over, a fit bit (I find that a piece of ridiculous unnecessary junk).

I was still driving a 1986 Chevy Sprint about the time my son was born, and it never had air. Many of the base model cars from the 1980's didn't have air, and some of our used cars had air originally, but it broke years before we got them. Even with my husband being a mechanic, we couldn't afford the parts to fix it, and did without back then. We often buy a very base model brand new car now, but then drive it for at least a decade, often much longer.
Back in early 80's, I dated a guy who LOVED Mustangs...the look & power! He didn't have A/C in his 5.0 since he said it lessened the power of the car. Here in Texas..in the 100+ heat...I must've sweated off 5 pounds during that summer. I was young, stupid, do anything for love. Yeah.
