Actually, I see more people posting photos here than I do among my small group on Instagram.

Hello....how many times have we seen the photo of the deerlike creature eating popcorn???  At least what I see on Instagram, is new material.

A towel warmer is all I can think of right now.  I love what I consider modern conveniences....air conditioning, central heat, gas fireplace, ice maker, microwave, convection oven, food processor, blender, electric mixer, cable tv, tablet, laptop....the list goes on and on. Man Happy

Heated flooring. I'd love our bathroom floors to be toasty warm in the middle of the night or early morning.

My feeling is that I live in 2016 not 1916 and if I can afford and enjoy the modern conveniences why not have them.  I like my A/C, DVR, Iphone, Ipad, automatic car, diswasher, etc.  It's sounds like you're bragging that you can live without it, well good for you. I washed and dried dishes when I was a kid and believe me, I don't miss it.  We did without a lot of things that I enjoy today.

I don't think anyone here is "bragging" about doing without some things.  I think it's more about considering what we have available to us today that our grandparents, & in some cases, parents, never dreamed of.  My dad, who passed too young in 1981, would have loved having a giant tv screen to watch his football every weekend & holiday.

Yes, it is about all the things that are great and fun and (sometimes) make life easier that people we actually touched lives with couldn't have even dreamed of.

I find it odd that a few posters here are getting ruffled feathers because some people choose to not to have every modern convenience for any number of reasons, inculding finances, lack of need for it, or simply enjoying the older way of doing things.

I never heard anyone insinuate that if you have all the modern things you are lazy or spoiled or uppity, but a few 'got it all, and have to have it all' posters have tried to ruin the fun of the thread by striking out in a reprimanding way because people post what they don't have by choice.

Some of those responses are phrased in such a way that they appear to be coming from some sense of need to guilt/shame people with the opposite view.

@DoneTryin

Good question. I have always consider social media the stuff like FB, Twitter, Instagram....where everyone would know who I am and I'm posting lots of pics of my personal life as well.

I never thought of anonymous forums as social media, but I guess they very well could be seen as that.

You made me think!

No ice-maker or water dispenser in fridge...our water, even with a softener system, is too hard and just gums up everything, plus it doesn't taste very good.

No computers at home, either. Our only decent option is satellite internet, but we have our own business in another town and can use the computers there, so why spend the money right now? Maybe after we retire...we'll see.

I think what I would hate to give up most is air-conditioning!

Re: What 'modern conveniences' do you live without?

I only have Internet/computer in my office with none at home.  Nor does my cell phone have Internet access, text and talk only.   I disconnected my cable t.v. last Oct. and have not missed it.  I did not watch or turn on the t.v. until about 9:00 each night for about an hour before bed (even on week-ends) so I just saved the $$ since I was reading books anyway.  I have never been a t.v. on just to be on person so why spend all that money for 1 hour a day?  Even while cleaning I just like the quiet.
I have a dishwasher but I never use it turn it on every six months or so to make sure no problems.  Easier to wash by hand each day.
