A confident person is someone who lacks fear of failure.

OH So if a person is confident then they should just allow the bullies to get away with the krap they hand out -- not in this life!

Yes...and then they are told by some that their "speaking their mind" is offensive. No way to win this one!
It's all how you say it. I can disagree with someone amicably and respect their viewpoint if they don't get nasty about it.

When one has to tell you how confident/wonderful they are, they usually aren't.
When one has to get loud to prove something, they are usually a dope.
Confident people are often overlooked because they go about their business quietly and have no interest in what others think about them.

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving! I would have to say that confident people speak their mind and are just "louder" in general.I go by what the dictionary defines it as cause that's what it is.
adjective
1.having strong belief or full assurance; sure:confident of fulfillment.2.sure of oneself; having no uncertainty about one's own abilities, correctness, successfulness, etc.; self-confident; bold:a confident speaker.3.excessively bold; presumptuous.
That's great. But odd that "presumptuous" is included since that leans toward arrogance & overconfidence.
That being said anybody can c&p from a dictionary with dry definitions.
The OP asked for posters' opinions on what makes a person confident. I think all the other posts with personally held opinions about characteristics of confident people are spot on.
Interesting topic @JBKO!
Yeah but that is MY definition. So that's my opinion. What of it? It can't be anything other than its meaning. No matter how others try to spin the definition. @charvale

@SilleeMee This is it in a nutshell. Nevermind all the other adjectives parlayed to give the word new meaning. THIS IS THE DEFINITION.
A confident person is someone who lacks fear of failure.

I don't know if Churchill was confident ,or determined. The thought of failure drove him to succeed ,and to do the impossible. He was a great man and world leader. Sometimes the thought of what happens if you don't win, can be a huge motivator

I like Silent Mee's definition, someone who lacks a fear of failure.
A confident person can be a horrible person, not just a wise, quiet, and/or nice one.

@SilleeMee If I could heart this more than once I would because you said what I was wanting to say but couldn't find the right way to put it...
