One of my favorite lines was from the sitcom the Nanny. Fran is at C C Babcocks house when she wasn't at home and when she saw how cold and sterile it was decorated Fran says "" point me to radiology.

Shabby Chic.

Love me some florals and Mr. Channing gives me carte blanche to do what I like. We just bought our oldest a condo and he took our living room furniture so I was able to get new things. I had fun shopping!

Re: What is your decorating style?

The line between finishing a room's look and "clutter" is I guess a matter of opinion.

In the British country houses there is stuff all over the public spaces. Bookcases, tables, walls, rugs. In Scandinavian houses, not so much. Both are beautiful and in harmony with the culture.

The Japanese of olden days had "treasure houses" to reduce clutter. They decorated only by seasons--certain beloved objects out at certain times only. The Japanese still adjust menus and home decorations by the four seasons, though many have downsized and no longer have storage houses/treasure houses to hide away their seasonal decorations for later use.

The Brits decorate using old family furniture so the look is necessarily eclectic, but they make it work.

So many, many ways of making a space inviting. I love uncluttered spaces, and I control clutter in my own home because I have to--it is small. If I get something, two things have to go, usu. to the hospital thrift shop.

But I don't want a bare look. Editing is necessary, but (perhaps as I am in hotels a lot) the "hotel look" is way too sterile for me.

To my little Pom Peaches, it's Peaches' Palace, but I'm allowed to live there.

Hey, Issie! Thanks; I just added it. 8)

And you're right - it does apply to this thread. But I think also to what's inside you that you wish to convey.

I have this quote in magnet form on my bathroom mirror as well.

Well, it's kind of a conglomeration. Colonial, country, a hint of traditional, and a touch of primitive...with a little farmhouse sprinkled in.

Re: What is your decorating style?

Traditional/classic/comfortable. I'm not into decorating (the whole homemaking gene totally passed me by). I knew I wanted pieces that would be high quality and not prone to going out of style, so I slowly acquired them as I could afford them.
