I don't know why you think this is a "Hollywood thing". Air kissing has a practical reason. It's so you don't smear your lipstick or lip gloss all over another person's cheek.
i of course was referring to the atmosphere wherein everyone just "loves" everyone, mwah, dahling !!! (yeah right!) of course not mussing the hair or the make-up, so you're ready for the photo op, so much the better.

The really absurd part is that these people (hosts and vendors) have already spent time together in the green room and/or going over the items to be presented. It's not like they haven't seen each other in five or ten minutes! How phony can one get????
The Dans seem to do better with the "kissy" thing - more like just friendly greetings. (IMHO) I really appreciate that.

My gfs do the air kissing thing because its kinda fun.
Can't really imagine people getting their panties in a bunch over it.

@Vickiv Your post is one of the cutest I've ever read. Loved it! 👏 😊

At the very beginning of the show, I think it's used as an ice breaker moment. Since QVC wants you to think you're part of their "family", it's just a mechanism to start the hour with a warm greeting.

I guess this is a touchy subject.

I think it's ridiculous. I will not become enamored with a vendor (and therefore buy whatever they're selling) just because they appear to be besties with a host. Some hosts even tell the vendors, "come give me a hug, it's what we do here!" Why? If they have to ask for the hug or kiss, don't they know that looks even worse? I understand they are trying to show comraderie, good feelings, they're all friends and family -- buy, buy, buy.
Don't get me wrong, I adore witnessing genuine closeness and true friendship when it's real and I'm not being pitched, but I'm sure this isn't what we're seeing 99% of the time.

You know the host & the vendor did not just see each other on the air that minute. They were all probably back stage prior to the presentation. I work for a large corporation with employees at many different locations, we hug when we see each other, maybe twice a year. But I'm in the South, we are huggers.
My co-workers are people I talk to on the phone often, or email often. We have a relationship. A polite hug is almost expected.
On QVC, no, it's tiresome, don't waste my time, show me the product.
