It's the equalvalent of the "like" button on FB and other social media sites.

It is a quick way to tell someone you like what they said, or you agree with what they said, without having to format a whole sentence to say so. It is a 'like' button if you are on Facebook. If not on Facebook, it is just a shortcut to "ya, nice post".

I am happy to have that option. So many times a thread might stay empty as if no one even read it. Now the like button will at least let people give a thumbs up or a nod without a whole lot of time or effort. Many times I want to let a poster know I read it, but have nothing to add to their thought other than "Ya, great post", or "ya, good thought"....
