Re: What is the point of pulling up old threads

Doesn't bother me at all.  Old or new.  I'm just here to read interesting items or learn something new.   I don't select categories.  I start with View All Forum Topics and read the ones that seem interesting to me.  For instance I would never go to the Electronics or Beauty category, but occasionally  I will see a thread in that category that interests me by using the all topls choice.  And if an old thread starts again, doesn't matter to me.  Different posters replying and new info or points of view.  After all, this is just a group of people having a conversation electronically.

Re: What is the point of pulling up old threads

I know people use Google and end up here.  It just happened to me an hour ago, when I was using Google to find a recipe for my air fryer.  The first link that came up was on this board, it was from two years ago, and I had even posted on it!

See nothing worng with someone using an older thread and adding to it.  Maybe I'll do it later, and let anyone who cares, know how my dinner turned out.😆

Re: What is the point of pulling up old threads

@Katcat1  Just my thoughts:  I like reading the old recipe threads, among others.  Sometimes I remember having seen a recipe here (that I failed to print out or hand copy) and by using the search I usually can find it.

I hope some of the long running threads in some of the categories remain and are not "poofed" altogether.

I read avidly far more on these boards long before I started to actively participate.

I try to be aware of dates and won't knowingly reply on an old one, but I can't swear that I never have "replied" to a stale post.

@I am still oxox. We can’t win either way. Open a new thread and it bothers some. Open an older thread and it bothers some. Doesn’t bother me but I’m not here every day watching what’s being posted.

It completely depends on the subject of the old thread... Some of them are still completely relavent and it makes more sense to continue the discussion than start fresh. Frankly, I wish more people would look before they leap, especially with current threads, where you'll sometimes see two or three threads about the same topic...

Me too. Right now the most offending forum seems to be "TV & Movies". There are multiple threads about tv shows called the exact same thing, the name of the show. Once I start posting on one, I try to remain with that one even though I may peep and read the other one(s).

@Tique I know exactly what you mean... There also tend to be lots of dupes about 'current events' in other forums... It's not earth shattering, but really, a quick look will show threads often already exist... I don't have a problem with most old threads being pulled up, as they often lend themselves to an ongoing discussion.

Maybe, they just didn't want to start a thread and saw nothing in the recent posts they were interested in. I don't see it as anything worth bringing up.

@dex - I almost always try to see if a thread is already posted about something I want to post. A few years back I asked a question and got replies that that had already been discussed. I hadn't looked, so I didn't know.

That's why I tend to be careful. Maybe if I'm looking for information about how to get a stain out of a pot, for example, I will eventually find a thread on it. If so, I will post on the "old" thread. You never know! Smiley Wink

Re: What is the point of pulling up old threads

Why in heaven's name would anyone care if a post is new or old?  If you see an old post and it interests you, read it, and if it doesn't, ignore it.  There are far too many things in this world to complain about, complaining about people bringing up old posts is the least of anyone's problems and besides, it isn't hurting anyone or causing trouble.  Some people just need to have something to complain about, and with people starving, nature destroying lives and properties, homeless people, etc., etc., complaining about people bringing up old posts doesn't make sense, but that is strictly my opinion.  Just saying.

So lets see we're not allowed to pull up old posts, hold on I'm adding this to my list of things that disturb some people on this forum.

Re: What is the point of pulling up old threads

[ Edited ]

We can pull up an older thread as long as it's less than 1 year.  See Beth's response.  I don't mind reading interesting things on an older thread but I wouldn't post on it unless it was done by mistake.

When I see a thread on the forums that is suppose to be reasonably current and I end up posting on it only to be yelled at, that annoys me.

So I guess we have to check first the date and then scroll to the bottom to find out who brought it forward and if it's an unknown then for sure it's a troll.  Isn't that how things work around here?  If no one knows your nic, you're a troll.
